In rehearsal in Zwolle las month. I am playing a piece I played in Zwolle in July, but I did not play it that night. (exposition, Chopin bbminor Scherzo Opus 31)

This is in a church that was built to be hidden. It has a nice acoustic and C3 Yamaha piano.

It snowed that night and was very cold. It was a rough time in the tour as well.

Have a look, this video means something to me.

The music is part of the second movement of the Ravel Concerto in G. Some of this was shot with my trusty Canon HV20 DV HD camera. The rest and the music were shot with a new Panasonic AVCHD TM-300 I got on sale in Akihabara.

One reason I was happy to visit Tokyo was to take my father's ashes to the coast.
As many of you know he was found dead in January. I had never met him but made letter contact in 2008. We also had a few phone calls. He was living in a tiny space in the Catskills, much like the shack you see on the beach in this video.

I start in Austin with the box of ashes, then shift to Tokyo and the journey to Kurihama and the Tomyozaki Lighthouse and peninsula. It was a magical spot that worked out, seemingly with divine intervention. The lighthouse is symbolic for me in many ways. I was happy to leave him underneath it. The boy at the end symbolizes hope, the beginning of life, and the fact my father never got to see me run like that.

He was stationed in Yokohama in the army during the Korean Conflict and so knew Japan. He also was a world traveller as a jazz musician. Since I have a great passion and connection with Japan it seemed fitting to take him there. This will be made into a longer segment of my Tokyo narrative film. The 90 seconds of flickr were a real limitation for this project.

Hotel New Azuma. I had flown from Texas that day, and am 2nd from the left. The man on the left is German and had just come from Anchorage, Alaska, the man to my right was from Hokkaido, the 4th from the left is Dutch and brought us all together, the man to his right is English, and the Japanese man on the far right is from Nagoya. We had a great time eating and drinking May 30th 2006.

The last part of the first movement from the sonata in c minor K457. Yes, Horowitz is to the right and this was his touring piano.
