"Die Hohenzollernbrücke ist eine Brücke über den Rhein in Köln in Höhe von Rheinstromkilometer 688,5. Das 1907 bis 1911 errichtete Bauwerk bestand ursprünglich aus zwei Eisenbahn- und einer Straßenbrücke. Nach 1945 erfolgte der Wiederaufbau nur noch für die zwei Eisenbahnbrücken, die später um eine dritte ergänzt wurden. Als Ersatz für die entfallene Straßenbrücke wurden an die äußeren Eisenbahnbrücken Geh- und Radwege angesetzt.

Die Hohenzollernbrücke stellt mit dem benachbarten Hauptbahnhof einen der wichtigsten Knotenpunkte im deutschen und europäischen Eisenbahnnetz dar und ist ein eindrucksvolles Bauwerk, das als fester Bestandteil zum Stadtbild von Köln und des Kölner Doms gehört." "Der Fachwerkbau ist ein Skelettbau. Man unterscheidet zwischen dem mittel- und oberdeutschen Firstsäulenbau sowie dem niederdeutschen Zweiständerbau bzw. dem Vierständerhaus.

Die vertikalen Hölzer werden als Pfosten, Stiel, Stütze, Stab oder Ständer, die leicht schräg stehenden als Strebe oder Schwertung bezeichnet, die horizontalen als Schwelle, Rähm, Riegel oder Pfette. Im Winkel von meist 45° verlaufende Hölzer zur Querstabilisierung nennt man Bänder oder Bug, sie verbinden die senkrecht aufeinander stehenden Teile. Streben sind oft symmetrisch angeordnet und sollten nach oben außen zeigen, damit seitlich auftretende Windkräfte besser abgefangen werden können.

Die Hölzer haben einen Querschnitt von 10 × 10 bis 18 × 18 cm. Aufeinander treffende Teile werden meist verzapft und mit Holznägeln gesichert. Dabei werden die Löcher leicht versetzt gebohrt, damit die Zapfen ins Zapfenloch gezogen werden. Die verwendeten Holznägel haben einen Durchmesser von etwa 2 cm und sind mindestens 2 cm länger als die Stärke des Balkens – sie stehen über.

Die Bauteile werden beim Zuschnitt mit Abbundzeichen versehen, um sie am Bauplatz schnell und richtig zusammensetzen zu können. The 22-storey FLATIRON BUILDING (1902), originally called Fuller Building, is one of the first skyscrapers ever built.

The building sits on the Flatiron block (so called because it was shaped like a clothing iron) at 23rd Street, Fifth Avenue, and Broadway. I went out today, trying to pick up the last few registered historic landmarks around here. 1937 Art Deco building. It's not all that interesting a building, but I was pleased at how this turned out. I had to desaturate the bright orange salt box.

This was taken a few minutes after the previous shot of the tombstone. Not terribly interesting. The camera usually has some trouble in low light situations, but it handled this one pretty well. I didn't have to lighten it up too much. I think I tweaked the color warmer, using RAW, and gave it a bit more contrast.
