Flamingo

First time in a bird hide in a nearby bird sanctuary where I grew up. Not much to be seen except for Flamingos and ducks. However, this flamingo came straight past the hide while feeding and the light was really nice at the time. Overall quite happy with the result..

Dawn cresting the hillsides of Cold Combes on the South Downs.

This was taken at the same time as an image I uploaded a couple of weeks ago, on one of the rare sunny mornings we've had in Sussex this year. I love the mixture of textures in this place, from rougher, steeper grazing land to the perfectly groomed rolling fields of crops in the distance. I'm also pleased that a cow and her calf made it into the shot, they were wandering up and over the hills and these two hung around long enough to get them in the frame.

This was another photo taken with my 600mm franken-lens, a bit of an unwieldy beast but it works OK out of the wind and seems to be just as sharp as my much more expensive Canon lenses.

I was practising the photography of birds recently in readiness for a day's wildlife photography. Unfortunately this was cancelled at the last moment due to a lack of subject matter. Hopefully i'll be able to go later in the year. This pigeon landed on the shed roof while I was waiting for a blackbird to return.
