On this part of the river – within the Park area – you will find the largest concentration of traditional salmon fishing equipment in Norway. Through centuries of experience, traps and nets of various shapes have been carefully adapted to the special conditions of the river with its waterfalls and currents.

The most famous trap is the Kjærra dating back to medieval times, the earliest recording of its existence being 1388 A.D. The trap consists of three big piers between two of which the wooden trap is situated. After having jumped the falls, some of the salmon are caught in the trap. At 6 p.m. every Thursday during the summer (June 15 through August 30) the salmon is landed - to the ovation of hundreds of spectators. In 1999 this fish trap was awarded “Olavsrosa”, the diploma of Norwegian Cultural Heritage

Several places along the river – both within the Park and outside – anglers may obtain fishing permits.

5 portrait images @16mm on a panoramic head stitched in CS5.

I tried a similar stitch / image about 18 months ago, before I had a panoramic head, and the software couldn't handle the parallax error on the hexagons in the foreground. The Hexagons were a really important bit of the composition. After that failure I found a cheap second hand panoramic head on ebay for about £70 (instead of the usual £350).

It was the first time I had managed to take a panoramic head back to the causeway and it managed fine. The moving water was a challenge but I took each image at the same time as a new wave crashed. Wish I had had a 3 stop ND to slow the water more to make the stitching easier. That said CS5 seemed to cope.

Still undecided about the ideal focal length for stitching. 16mm distorts the foreground, Some of the best landscape panoramas i've seen are stitched from 35mm-50mm focal length images.
