Meaningful Little Statues

When I first arrived at this cemetery I was very much attracted to the numerous rows of small stone statues of which many where wearing a hat, bonnet or holding a mini windmill - I had thought it was some sort of nice ritual to honour the Buddhism religion.
Back at home I looked up the exact name: Jizo statues at the Zojo-ji Garden. The honest meaning of these small statues startled me a bit: the statues represent unborn children, therefore the Japanese name ("Unborn Children Garden"). Mothers who have lost their child dedicate a statue and dress it in baby clothes. Additionally, small stones are placed next to or in front of the figures to symbolically shorten the suffering that children have to bear on their way to afterlife…

Another view of some bluebells from the May 2013 season. A fallen tree adds some interest and a lead in towards the back of the woodland where a carpet of blue continues unabated.

I'm having trouble with my recent uploads on Flickr, I'm editing the pictures on a laptop for the time being and can I heck get the colour/brightness to look right. They look ok at the angle viewed on the laptop but look grossly dark on most other screens I then look at Flickr on. Hoping to get the PC of mine fixed before too long but in the meantime just bear with my darker images, I may have to re-edit them on the PC at some point when it's working again.....

Loughborough has a large student population - the white Fiesta has a personalised number plate, with their full name printed on the bottom. Most people leave a digital footprint nowadays.

Museums at Night 2013 took place between 16-18 May across East Lothian's museums.

These photos show some of our events including:
Treasures by Twilight at the John Gray Centre, 16th May, an event for adults giving a behind the scenes look into the museum and archives collections

Bat Walk at Prestongrange Museum, 17th May, a talk by a Countryside Ranger, followed by an outdoor walk to find wildlife on the site.

Adventure Stories, 18th May, at John Muir's Birthplace and John Gray Centre, where storytellers brought the buildings to life!
