40143 stands on platform 12 at Manchester Victoria on an iconic class 40 turn, the Manchester to Glasgow newspaper train. On this occasion a very fortunate "normal" passenger managed to get a footplate ride to Preston due to him missing his train, jammy sod!

Were you on this shed-bashing trip of the North West on Sunday 29th June 1980? An NREA trip that took in (in order) Stockport SP, Reddish, Guide Brudge SP, Longsight, Newton Heath, Manchester Victoria station, Wigan NW station, Springs Branch, Canada Dock Goods, Liverpool Lime Street, Wavertree Parcels Depot, Edge Hill, Allerton, Speke Junction SP, Ditton SP, Widnes West SP, Warrington Arpley and Northwich. The party is just descending the footbridge into Longsight depot, greeted by 'split-box' 40143 leaving the depot at that time and 47535 alongside and 40126 behind. No Health and Safety worries then - happy days! 40143 was withdrawn from this depot in January 1985 and cut up at BREL Crewe Works during September 1986
