LOVE this picture. I’m contemplating using masks for all of the characters except Matt, Louisa, and El Gallo in Round and Round. This Romeo and Juliet masked ball picture explains why—this otherworldy, exotic anonymity would go along way towards stripping our beloved clown characters into people who could actually turn on Matt and cause him physical harm. The costumes in Round and Round should never look funny, but should have a very Mary Zimmerman Arabian Nights feel to them. They would be the sort of people who travel magazines would take pictures of for brochures, but the photographer would be very careful not do do anything wrong for fear of getting cut. Less of an idea that they are dirty thieves or muggers—perhaps think about the gypsies in Hunchback of Notre Dame, who can turn sinister on a dime.

The idea of a vaudeville team strikes the right cord for Mortimer and Henry. We just need to make sure that Henry can still come off as super sincere and tragic, no matter how comic he is. This would be more of their entrance post I Can See It.

Matt in I Can See It (or right after it)-- sort of off kilter. Perhaps Cara can even seduce him a bit when Max and Chris are leading him off? I want him to appear quite off balance but also extremely excited.

If the sun and moon could be two sides of the same coin and spin on Cara's finger, how cool would that be? She could pluck it down, spin it on her finger as El Gallo looks on, stop it on the sun on his cue, then hoist it back up. End freeze, start Act II with way too bright sunlight. This plum is too ripe.

Perhaps being able to have a portable pedestal would be a nice circusy touch. Especially for when people are giving monologues. Cara could hand them props that place them more squarely in reality.

The seductive quality of this tango is wonderful precisely because it looks like it is set in a seedy location. This would be what Louisa is in danger of falling into.

The matador pictures are a very stylized version of masculine elegance and power. Too ornamental of course, but the grace of the matador is something to keep in mind for El G.
