At first I thought it was a row or someone trying to break into an apartment, but then it suddenly seemed like it came from our door so we jumped out of the bed and ran there. Someone shouted through the door that we had to get out quickly, there was a fire in one of the apartments downstairs. <br /> <br /> I didn't have time to change from my pyjamas so I just put on my jacket and shoes and grabbed my shoulderbag (well I put my camera in the bag first...unfortunately with the macro lens on, I did not stop and change lenses). When I opened the door, the stairwell was filled with smoke but it was not so thick yet so we were able to see the way down the stairs (the stairwell was later filled with black, thick smoke). All the other neighbours (except those who lived in the burning apartment) were also awakened and on their way out. When we were outside we could see that one of the apartments on the groundfloor was lit up by flames. <br /> <br /> We were told by a neighbour from a building close by that they had been awake and seen a couple of persons throw something through the window and run away and that the thing they threw looked like it exploded. So they had immediately called the firebrigade and had run to try and awake everyone. I'm so grateful they saw what was happening, who knows what the outcome of the fire would have been otherwise! <br /> <br /> We had not been out many minutes before the firebrigade, police and paramedics arrived and took care of everything. The fire was put out but we were not allowed to go back to our apartments until hours later and then just to fetch the most important things. Luckily no one was seriously injured, the persons living in the destroyed apartment was not at home. Our apartment smells a little of smoke and has some soot in it, but not a lot so I think we were lucky.
