One of my favorites from 2012. They had stopped dancing by the time I got my phone out of my pocket and ready to shoot. So I asked them if they could keep going for a little bit longer while Cat, Nicole and I took photos of them.

I think about this shot often because it was the moment (for me) when my iPhone camera became something more than just the camera on my phone. I knelt in the water and soaked my ankles to get this photo and didn’t think twice about it. I just got the photo I wanted. I doubt I would have done that with my expensive camera.

I know the saying about the best camera being the one you have with you. But sometimes you have to literally get your feet wet (my goodness, sorry for that) to understand what that means. I love having a camera with me where ever I go. It makes me better. Slowly.

I don't think I could possibly explain how much this talk has changed the way I look at what I do. What I build; what I choose to spend my time on. The idea of building things that endure is so simple and resonant. Those of us who are driven to build things (paintings, photographs, websites, signs, homes, cars...families) are frequently sidetracked by those who would have us believe that the tools and the techniques of creation are more important than the actual creation. Not so. "When We Build" is an excellent reminder that the only rule for building things is that what we build must be meaningful to us first.

I think this was an engagement photoshoot at Natural Bridges the other night. It was a great night for it. Lots of energy from the people on the beach and the ocean.

He had collaborators today. It was cool to watch them think about how the designs could be woven together. They worked on each others' designs too.

Most of the photos I took today sucked, so I mucked with this. It still sucks, but now it has 30 pieces of flair.
