not sure if this is a wild flower or was planted by Ms. Cobb, the previous home-owner - but, I will add more plants to the garden strip located beside the walkway, leading to my deck.

most of the roses had brown edges and this was the best looking one I could find, before I fled back to the cooler air in my car. (I found a huge oak tree, dying, in another client's golf course lot, and in danger of falling on two smaller oaks - time to act!)

more of the few flowers I found near where Johnny, C.H. and I parked our vehicles on April 17th, next to the highest hill in that area of the near-shoreline of Falcon Lake, a few miles south of Zapata, Texas.

I love this plant and the only other ones I have seen are at the Mercer Arboretum. My client's neighbor is a heart surgeon and has done a very nice job of planting flowering species in his garden areas.

We stopped to admire this beautiful purple-flowering tree, raining purple pettles beneath it. (from our collecting trip to Zapata County and taken in Falfurrias, Texas, on our route - on April 24, 2009) This just in, from one of my friends who did name it on the trip, but I forgot it: name is Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia).

These beautiful and delicate flowers can be found near the entrance to the offices of The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, off Wooday, as you enter the Memorial Park area from Loop 610 - it is worth the visit, but the park is not in the best condition right now - lots of repair, plantings and cleanup going on.

An unusual, but very pretty vine is blooming at the nature center, along the back and on a fence, but I do not know the name of this plant.

An update on the storm-ravaged Houston Arboretum & Nature Center, which I love to visit and look for opportunities to catch some nice photographs of nature at work. This is one of the few views to enjoy, at the moment. After you leave here and enter, on the trails, there is not much pretty to see, but lots of damage and work yet to be done - they need a break!

A little closer to the area where there are a lot of blooming roses to see, some with great bunches of blooms and worth the trip to see.

One of the prettiest amaryllis flowers I have ever seen and I got lucky, spotting this one before it went too far down hill.

One of the types of scrub brush growing around and helping to hide the barrel and other types of cacti Dean and I observed as we navigated our way through the brush and the eroded edges of a dry creekbed near the shore of Falcon Lake. This one had nice flowers, but like almost every other one, it also has thorns to avoid.
