Pasta dish szn loves copied from a restaurant on Main St. Pasta with pesto sauce (made last summer and frozen) and peanut butter with broccoli, onion and chopped peanuts. Delicious and very satisfying to eat.

Picture #16 for Sunday Project

Szn and I went to Victoria for the weekend. It's such a beautiful city. More beautiful than Vancouver in some ways. It's smaller and you can feel it. It has lots of gorgeous and grand old buildings. It also has a few of these little quiet spots that are open to public but feel quite private and secret. We visited some second hand and antique book stores where szn indulged in her love of very old books. We walked all around. Unfortunately we didn't make it to the beach or the yarn store. Maybe next time!

Summer 2011 we visited my sister in Alberta. My very favorite part of the trip was this part - to Jura Creek. It's a semi-secret area. Not totally secret but not known to tons of people either. It would probably be pretty overrun if a lot of people knew about it because it is so darn cool there. I'd go all the time if I lived in the area.

At the end of our walk down the narrow canyon. Water wasn't terribly deep here but certainly above the hips.

I guess this is actually technically the start of the canyon. It is where the water runs in. The creek is super shallow and fast here, and runs along a super smooth, winding rock bed.

Seeing this log in here makes me wonder how high the water gets in spring. I can't really imagine how it got in other than at super high water where the canyon wouldn't be so narrow or if it fell in from the top of the canyon wall.

Well, blossoms anyways. The double blossoms are ready, and they're the last of the cherry trees to bloom. Sad that they'll be done soon, seems like they just started.

This is custard topped cornbread. It's a thin, liquidy cornbread batter that has a cup of heavy cream poured in the middle in the pan before it bakes. It makes this excellent layered effect with a denser, nubbly textured corn-bready base and a lighter, smooth and creamy top. The top layer is rich and creamy lower down and loosens to jiggly soft eggy creaminess on top, with a crisp brown crust. It's served on a small pool of dark maple syrup. It is barely sweet, rich without being heavy and completely delightful. It was Sunday breakfast this week.

My sister, Felix and I went to the US for the day on Saturday. We booked a site for camping at Birch Bay and wanted to check it out. Looks like a pretty nice campground and a nice stretch of water too. We saw people digging for clams and think we might try it ourselves when we go camping.

Went for a walk April 1 somewhere I hadn't been yet - between the Burrard (on the left) and Granville bridges in the south side of the water. Just west of Granville island entrance. There's a large marina here. Must cost tons for moorage! For the first time I saw live large crabs in the water. They were right on the banks, on the rocks at the edge of the marina. Seems like a strange place to have seen them, in such a busy waterway.

This is the mountain range featured on the old Canadian ten dollar bill. It's at Lake Moraine near Lake Louise In the Rocky Mountains. Such a beautiful, beautiful place.
