Joey was playing drums ... in the garage. The window that Sean is standing in front of was open so we could hear the drums, haha. It was all kinds of awesome.

Truth: this is a week late. Last weekend was a bit crazy and I totally forgot about my project. It's easy for me to forget about things I do for myself when I have to think about everyone else. It's a blessing and a curse.

Either way, yesterday afternoon was spent reading "Smoke and Mirrors" by Neil Gaiman in our sunny living room. You can't really see her, but Penny is chillin' on those pillows. It was a nice afternoon.

Also, the flare here was completely accidental. I was intermittently taking photos as the sun came and went behind the clouds, and it was rarely this sunny. This was the day San Francisco got snow. We thought we'd get some down here too, but no, just a cold day with partly cloudy skies. Have I ever mentioned I love the weather in the South Bay? :)

The view from our porch the other night. No changes to the colors at all. It was just that beautiful.

Gotta love old San Jose neighborhoods. Our house was built in 1938, which means all the phone lines had to be added in awkward (and ugly) ways in our old, old neighborhood. Not my favorite feature, but that's how it is in the 'hood. ;)

5.25 Anniversary!

Yesterday was Joey and my first anniversary! We kept it low-key. :) We went out for sushi at the restaurant where we had our first date and where we went after we got engaged. Although honestly, it's our favorite restaurant, so we go there a lot. It's really good, and the sentimental value can't be beat. :) Our waitress remembered us telling her that our first date was there, so when we told her it was our anniversary she was so excited. We got a few special treats from the sushi chefs and ate more sushi than we thought was possible. It was excellent.

Before heading out though, we grabbed the pup and took our first nice photo on the porch of our house! It's still a work in progress, but we love it.

It's been a crazy first year of our marriage journey, but it's been full of laughs and adventures. :)

Not much to say this week. Lots going on. Lots of good, lots of not so good, but such is life, I suppose.

Let's focus on the good! Today is my mom's 50th birthday - woooooot! Had a little party for her last night. It was fun. Today is also the lovely Sundae Mourning's birthday! And she said she's going to start a 365 today with a fancy new camera! Yaaaaaay!

And, in other celebrations, tomorrow is Joey and my first anniversary. That's right. We've been married a whole damn year already. It feels like 6 months. I didn't think I could love him more than I did at our wedding, but I do. And I just found out he liked the taste of soap and paste as a kid. (He's odd.) So, my Week 5 photo will probably be taken tomorrow. Is that allowed? I don't care. :)

Also, this is my first cop out of my 52 Weeks project. I hate it. :)

This little one has kept me busy this week. :) We adopted her from the Humane Society, and were able to bring her home Monday night. She just got spayed, so she's healing and adjusting, but a lot faster than we expected. She went from groggy, restful, and lovey, to fast, spastic, hyper, and protective in just a few days. :) She's a chihuahua mix, but that's all we know. We think maybe mixed with corgi or beagle? She has really soft fur, like a corgi, not a really thin coat like chihuahuas, But her face is obviously chihuahua. It's a mystery!

I'm sure you'll be seeing more than you want to of her (if you haven't already), but that's OK. :)

I'm eager to get art up on our walls, but I'll be kind of sad when my clean purple background goes away.

Feeling better this week, emotionally. Feeling more optimistic. Ironically I'm home sick today. I slept for almost 13 hours last night - yikes. Trying to kick it before it gets bad. But it was a good day to shoot at home in bed and show off the new hair before it fades.

Just a generally unsettling day today. Back to not teaching. Back to feeling unfulfilled. Back to feeling like nothing I do is good enough. Back to kicking myself for being so caught up in what I don't have that I don't truly appreciate what I do have. Back to diving into photography and literature and music to escape from what I don't want to face. Back to the push and pull of introspective thoughts, and running away from introspective realizations.

Welcome, 2011; 2010, it was good while it lasted.

The weird angles in this photo kind of bother me, but instead of fixing them, I decided it's actually perfect the way it is. Simple on the surface, but unsettling for subtle reasons.

ETA: I decided to go ahead with the 52 Weeks Project idea that I've been kicking around. I think it'll be good. :)

This is one of our neighbors. She's really cute in this photo, but she has the loudest meow I've ever heard! And she wanders around, fearless, meowing randomly.

She was helping Joey clean out the garage today though, and we decided she should have a name. He thought of Sinatra. :)

Looking forward to Christmas with the family this week, and then to working on the house next week. We have blinds coming, a new floor for the kitchen in the works, and potentially a new countertop for the kitchen. We'll see how much we can get done.

Bike Build 2010!

This might be my favorite shot from the Bike Build this year. Joey and I got to help these kids build bikes for them and for other local kids. It was so fun. :)

The quote on the back of the girl's shirt is an Anne Frank quote that says, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to change the world." It's apt for several reasons, but mainly because she came to build bikes for others, not knowing she was receiving on herself. :)

This year, we had 700 volunteers build 2,400 bikes to give away to more than 20 local charities. This all happened on Dec. 11 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Yes, it's a miraculous event that happens every year. I'm lucky to be a part of it.
