HDR processing done using HDR Efex Pro.

Shot with my Nikon D200 and Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm f/3.4-4.5 lens. All natural light, no flash was used on any of the photographs. My goal today was to test out some new settings a colleague recommend I try out with my D200. The settings are below if you want to try them out for your camera. I could see a difference in the quality of the photographs as opposed to my normal settings. The colors were a little sharper and vibrant.

Shooting Menu --> Optimize Image --> Custom
Image Sharpening = +2
Tonal Compensation = A (automatic)
Color Mode = III
Saturation = + Enhanced
Hue Adjustment = 0 degrees

sRGB

This is how I see the world as a photographer. I'm constantly looking at everything as a potential photograph. A moment that has been waiting for me to capture it with my camera. Part of the creative process is envisioning the final photograph in your mind before you take the first picture.

Strobist info:

Alien Bee B800 positioned in front of subject at height of 7 feet at a a 45 degree downward angle, @ 1/24 power with 51" PLM silver umbrella. One SB-910 speedlight positioned behind subject's right at 5' 5" height with a large rogue flashbender, pointed at the wall behind subject. One SB-700 speedlight behind subject's left at 5' 5" height with a large rogue flashbender pointed at the wall behind subject.

Nikon D200, AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f/1.8G lens, Aperture: f/11.0, Shutter: 1/200 sec, ISO: 800, five Yongnuo RF-603 triggers, Alien Bee B800 @ 1/24 pwr with 51" PLM silver umbrella, Nikon SB-700 speedlight @ 1/8 pwr 17mm zoom, Nikon SB-910 @ 1/8 pwr 18mm zoom, two large Rouge Flashbenders, one each speedlight. Processing done with Adobe Camera Raw, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and HDR Efex 2 to add the HDR effect to final composite image.

The Confederate Memorial

I was bored yesterday evening, so I went on a photo walk. There really isn't anything interesting left to photograph in Wilmington that I haven't seen already. If someone knows of something, please feel free to share the address of the location.

I'm not a fan of the Confederacy and what they stood for, but I can appreciate a good photograph nevertheless.

Confederate Memorial in Wilmington, North Carolina. Nikon D200, Vivitar Series 1 19-35mm f/3.5 - 4.5 lens, Aperture: f/22.0, Shutter: 1.6 sec, ISO: 100, with Manfrotto 055 XPROB tripod. Post processing done using Lightroom 4.4, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and HDR Efex Pro 2.

An Afternoon Walk

I was on a walking path at Carolina Beach when I spotted the lady walking on the trail. I snapped a quick shot of her, she never knew what happened. I used Nik Software's HDR Efex Pro to add the HDR effect to the photograph.

Who Photographs the Photographer?

This is a two exposure HDR shot of Jerome Mack from Saturday, 02 February 2013 during our photo walk at Carolina Beach Park.

Jerome is shooting with the Canon 5D Mark II with the 70-200mm f/2.8L glass.

Shot with Nikon D200, Vivitar 19-35mm f/3.4-4.5mm lens, hand held. The 1st shot was at aperture: f/5.6, shutter speed: 1/50 sec, ISO: 100, white balance: cloudy. The 2nd shot was at aperture: f/5.6, shutter: 1/160 sec, exposure compensation: -2.33, ISO: 100, white balance: cloudy. Post processing done using Photomatix to merge the two photographs together. Adobe Bridge CS6, Adobe Photoshop CS6, and Silver Efex Pro 2 used to make final touches and convert photograph to black & white.

This is a HDR photograph of Front & Chestnut Street in Wilmington, North Carolina. This is a 5 bracket shot, processed in Photomatix and Adobe Photoshop CS6.

I took 5 shots with my D200 in Bracket Mode, each shot is +1 in exposure difference from the previous shot. Below are the settings for each shot:

Photo #1: Aperture: f/13.0, Shutter: 1/40 sec, ISO: 100
Photo #2: Aperture: f/13.0, Shutter: 1/160 sec, ISO: 100
Photo #3: Aperture: f/13.0, Shutter: 1/80 sec, Exposure Compensation: -1, ISO: 100
Photo #4: Aperture: f/13.0, Shutter: 1/20 sec, Exposure Compensation: +1, ISO: 100
Photo #5: Aperture: f/13.0, Shutter: 1/10 sec,
Exposure Compensation: +2, ISO: 100

My Nikon D200 was on a Manfrotto 055XPROB tripod. I used a shutter release cable to trigger the shutter.

This is another example of a Plan B photograph. This wasn't my original goal in mind when I started taking my shots for day 342. I was trying to recreate a concept another photograph shot that motivated me to try this. My attempt at reproducing the concept failed in a big way, so I decided to push along and experiment with some other ideas and this the final result.

341/365 - Always Have a Plan B

I had just finish coming out of the Taste of Italy restaurant when I spotted this Chrysler 300 with EVO doors in the parking lot. At first I wasn't going to take a shot of the car because I had a photo shoot schedule for later in the day, so I'd get my Project 365 photograph from out of whatever I shot at the session. I saw the car from the back which wasn't an appealing perspective to photograph it at. So I walked around to the front of the car and started taking photographs. You know I'll try HDR on a bar of soap, so I too some bracketed shots, handheld. Photomatix 4 and Adobe Photoshop CS6 was used to edit the photograph. I'm glad I did take this photograph because later in the day, the photo shoot was cancelled by the client.

After 341 days of taking pictures everyday, I got to thinking that it won't hurt to shoot a few photographs of the car. I don't know how many times I just took a photograph of something and later ended up using that photograph as my photo for the day instead of what I initially planned. There were times when I had an idea and then it would be raining by the time I got off of work, so I'd have to come up with something else. Always have a back up plan when doing any project. You never know what will happen and one of the worst things is to miss a day taking a photograph which technically screws up your Project 365.

Today was a slow day. I was consumed with trying to come up with ideas for the remainder of my Project 365. I saw these two puddles in the parking and challenge myself to do something with them. I took some photographs and proceeded to create. Hopefully tomorrow will be better.
