Finally found some time to upload a photo on flickr.. was pretty busy with vivas & meeting relatives during Diwali.. This is a second shot with 500D & had an absolutely fantastic time clicking this one.. Was just 2-3 inches away while clicking this.. cos I clicked it wit the kit lens (18-55).. For the shallow DOF and immaculate focusing had to b pretty close to her.. the spots on her head are nothing but water drops due to light showers.. the graceful lady is Indian rat snake ;)

Have lovely day guys ! :)

Thank you so much friends :)

Hello friends.. Aha.. I am too slow when it comes to uploading photos on flickr..hehe.. Its been almost three days since I m trying this shot & after toiling a lot I got 1 presentable shot..phew..

After all the high speed shots that I have captured , I wanted to go a step further & try out my luck in capturing the refraction of the flower in the reflux of the fallen water drop.. DARED TO DO IT WITH MY POINT & SHOOT camera.. Though I could not get a detailed refraction of the flower I managed to atleast focus the drop properly, keeping enough depth to keep the refraction sharp & capture the whole flower in the drop.. Believe it or not its too tough when you have no lighting setup, a point & shoot camera & to rely on self instincts to press the shutter.. So in short everything manual.. no circuits, no external flashes, no sync flashes, no laser beams, nothing.. Ok so here is the setup for the shot..

Setup : Camera : fujifilm finepix s5700
Tripod : Lander

Took a deeper bowl & filled the water upto the brim, kept it below the dropper (dropper at a height of around 15-20 cm above the water surafce). Kept the flower behind the bowl in such a way that its refraction would appear in the drop of the water which bounces of from the surface.. Now comes the tricky part.. how to position the flower?.. Well for this purpose i took another dropper & half pressed its nipple such that the drop was clinging to it & held the dropper just above the water surface at a height where the drop of water (from the dropper kept above) would approximately bounce (after hitting the water surface) & looked through the clinging water drop & then adjusted my camera angle & flower behind accordingly, once i saw the complete flower in the clinging water drop I fixed the position of my camera on tripod & the flower behind the bowl.. No special lighting for this one atall (as I dont have any resource..hehe) Just kept the ambient light very dim & flash intensity very low too.. Kept the aperture smaller (larger aperture value) to get maximum depth in the water drop & to obtain a sharp refraction. Used the home made diffuser over my pop-up flash & then lots & lots of trials to get a satisfactory shot..

Post processing : Absolutely nothing except using a clone tool in PS to remove the reflection of the flash which was visible in the drop.

Hope you like the shot.. Suggestions most welcome

Hello friends,

Here is another upload from my favourite place SATPUL.. please forgive me if you are bored of seeing photos from this place.. hehe.. but my legs start crawling towards this place every now n then..

This time I thought of going in for a different perspective & angle for this lovely senset.. Luckily I could witness the sun setting just under the bridge & decided to compose it this way.. Included the small bark of tree in the right bottom corner for some perspective.. Though its a very old bridge I simply love it :)

Used 4 exposures for water, sky, foreground & the bark, bridge & combined into HDR image using photomatix & some layer masking + sliders in PS CS2.. Since it was a bit windy & pleasant that day, thought of giving it a colder tone.. Hope you like this photo :)

Well, this is my final photo from that day's (SATPUL) photoshoot.. I simply loved the way sun was setting from behind the tallest tree bursting a range of colours & the divine beams.. The descending arrangement of trees from left to right caught my eye.. It was a lovely sight.. Hope you like it :)

Hello friends, uloading a photo after a long time.. I am too slow when it comes to uploading photos on flickr, just like my internet connection speed ..hehe..

Wanted to do some nature photography badly, but since the summer is getting hot like hell, roaming about has become really difficult.. Tried going to some distant places (from my city) like karjat, Nerul but could not find anything interesting even during the golden hours, mostly because of the boring foreground with huge stretches of barren land & dull sky.. So, decided to rely once again on my favourite place 'SATPUL', in the outskirts of my city.. Its a beautiful place with a 500m huge bridge flying over huge Ulhas river, boats anchored along the bank & a small Jetty.. The most serene place in my city.. I love it the most cos everytime I visit this place it offers me something interesting to click..

That day the ambiance was lovely so me & my dear friend Tushar decided to go to this place.. Clicked this one from the small Jetty built there.. Loved the way the sunlight was bathing the calm ripples of the water, providing a nice texture to the water.. Will be uploading more pics from that day's shoot..

NO HDR, SINGLE EXPOSURE SHOT

Have a nice day :)

Hello friends.. Uploading a photo after a long time.. currently I am enjoying experimenting with different techniques.. So, here is yet another upload from high speed series.. I am a lot fascinated by frozen in time shots & hence this shot of reflux of the droplet hitting the water surface..

Setup : Same as the previous shot, except the the container holding the water.. last time i took a shallow one, this time i took a deeper one , coz my target was to nail the reflux movement & not the crown.. So filled the dropper with orange ink & made it fall into the container containing blue ink.. As a result the reflux is orange in colour, coz only the drop which hits the water surface goes back upwards..Lighting setup same as previous shot..

NO PHOTOSHOPPING except adjusting the contrast & saturation

Thanks a lot everybody.. :))))

Yes! I am back to shooting the crowns after a couple of landscape uploads.. This time I experimented with milk & water.. Here is what i did for the shot..

Setup : Took a flat serving tray & placed a pink paper at the base. Then I poured milk over it, a layer of about 1cm.. since the white color was looking a bit boring I added colored drawing ink (its easily available in any stationary shop).. Since I used a vibrant pink paper, I kept the color of milk mild by adding 3-4 drops of the ink.. Placed this 2 feet below the tap.. Adjusted my camera on tripod to get the desired angle.. Placed the camera 5 inches away from the splash..Still i had a tough time cleaning my lens later due to milk spots..hehe. For the focusing part I observed the place where the water drop was hitting the surface & placed a strip at the point of contact & focused the strip manually.. Kept aperture small to get more depth

Lighting : Frankly speaking I cant afford to buy the glamorous & perfect setup required for HIGH SPEED PHOTOGRAPHY.. So I had to rely on the pop-up flash of my cam.. I dont have an external flash to trigger too.. So, I reduced the intensity of my flash to its minimum value & kept a CFL bulb above the tray switched on to get equal distribution of light over the tray.. & then just hoped for the best.. hehe.. started clicking patiently..

Post-processing : Since I used a pop-up flash the upper portion of image i.e region behind the crown was darker compared to the lower portion of the image.. Since that wasn't looking very nice I used a color gradient from bottom to top to match with the above exposure..

Suggestions most welcome.. :)

This place has some mysterious charm.. Every time I go there I get something wonderful to shoot.. The colors that are visible form this Bridge at Dusk are awesome.. No other place in Dombivli (my city) gives such a fantastic vantage point for viewing sunset.. Had been there yest eve with my friend Tushar ; Had a fantastic time viewing the sunset & then this wonderful spray of colors.. I liked these silhouetted ships which gave some nice perspective to the whole post sunset scene..

Clicked this shot from one of the suspended balconies of the bridge.. Man the balconies shake like crazy when trains pass by.. one almost gets elevated 2 inches in air.. LOL.. But its a wonderful place.. Hope you like this shot

Yes, I am back from Dapoli trip, it was awesome !! Lovely place & beautiful nearby places..wow !!

Clicked this photo at 'Ladghar beach', a place 7Kms away from Dapoli.. This beach has clean water & lovely red textured stones all over.
The sunset was so beautiful that I almost forgot to photograph it..hehe..Very romantic.. It was a windy & cold evening.. Since the moonrise was around 2030 hrs, it was low tide during the sunset & the water was sinking in.. But that revealed these nice textured rocks & soft shiny sand.. Had a great time photographing this.

6 exposures manual blending using layer masking technique in PS.. Used gradients & brushes.. No color modifications.. No HDR.

Will catch up with your photostreams soon :)

Explored : # 127 , October 29, 2008

Turn off all the lights in the room & PLZ VIEW LARGE

Though this shot may seem like an abstract shot to many, but I clicked this with some purpose.. Well plz read the description below which will help you understand why I clicked this shot..

Why this shot : To Hindus, darkness represents ignorance, and light is a metaphor for knowledge. Therefore, lighting a lamp symbolizes the destruction, through knowledge, of all negative forces- wickedness, violence, lust, anger, envy, greed, bigotry, fear, injustice, oppression and suffering, etc. This is basically what the festival DIWALI symbolises... Happy Diwali to all my flickr friends !!

Some info on the festival : Diwali is perhaps the most well-known of the Indian festivals: it is celebrated throughout India, as well as in Indian communities throughout the diaspora. It usually takes place eighteen days after Dusshera. It is colloquially known as the "festival of lights", for the common practice is to light small oil lamps (called diyas) and place them around the home, in courtyards, verandahs, and gardens, as well as on roof-tops and outer walls. In urban areas, especially, candles are substituted for diyas; and among the nouveau riche, neon lights are made to substitute for candles. The celebration of the festival is invariably accompanied by the exchange of sweets and the explosion of fireworks. As with other Indian festivals, Diwali signifies many different things to people across the country. In north India, Diwali celebrates Rama's homecoming, that is his return to Ayodhya after the defeat of Ravana and his coronation as king; in Gujarat, the festival honors Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth; and in Bengal, it is associated with the goddess Kali. Everywhere, it signifies the renewal of life

Kept the candles on a red satin sheet & turned off all d lights in the room.Kept my black t-shirts for the black background..

Hope you like this photo..

Seeing this flower with a water drop i realised that me & the flower are going through the same phase. Its summer here & the days are getting hotter. the flower has found a way to cool itself just like i hv found a vent for my boredom due to studies, by clicking its pic..hehe..

Experimented with SPOT PHOTOMETRY as i wanted light only on the water drop. Natural light for lighting

Finally my first HDR.

VIEW ON WHITE & LARGE

had a gr8 time clicking pics with my close buddy Akshay 'obN0x' . I thank him for lending me his tripod.Have clicked this pic around 6.45 a.m., so managed to get the saturated colours & the desired rays, though i wanted the sun in my composition, could not get it coz of the dense clouds.the foreground wasnt interesting so decided to have only the sky.

i tried using higher ISO ; so the grains in some regions..hope i'll improve gradually

had a wonderful morning though!!

I made this HDR out of 5 exposures in PHOTOMATIX PRO & then some further processing in ADOBE PHOTOSHOP.

Well this is my first try at capturing birds, so i truly enjoyed , coz it was the time when i realised how tough it is to photograph them, pretty tough, the toughest part was to click with its neck erect coz pigeons tend to move their neck continuously, actually i did nt get the neck perfectly erect, but before i could prepare myself for the next shot, he was on his way..hehe
So weekdays hv been been abstaining me from photography since past 2 weeks.. One fine eve i couldn't stay away from my cam any longer & went to the terrace n this one caught my eye.. Finally I could see some colours in otherwise drab routine.. The festive season of Navratri is also ON & this one seemed to be a nice metaphorical representation of UNLOCKING THE COLOURS !
Backyard photography is always fun :) Clicked this one in a backyard of a bungalow early morning.. The light was soft & the leaves were looking fresh due to light drizzle. Loved the way back light was bringing out the details in this wonderful leaf. The bokeh created by the lovely flowers & coloured leaves in thr BG was lovely too.. It made me feel extremely fresh.. Hope you too feel it that way :)

Have a lovely day ahead friends :)

Clicked this photo, when i had been to Karnala Fort last year with my friends.. Though this elegant female tried to camouflage itself nicely in those twigs & protect her offsprings ( see d one on her back) , she couldn't escape my prying lens.. I was real close to this tiny monster.. phew !!.. But unfortunately could not do away with the distracting background :(..

Well my exam is on , so photography has taken a backseat.. Only 1 paper is remaining though.. Found this photo while digging my archives..hehe.. Will catch up wit your photostreams asap..

WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR

Plz View Large & spot the crescent moon

Had been to my friend's place in d suburb of Mumbai, Mulund. The morning was pretty moody & dramatic with mist n fog all over the horizon keeping the sun out of visibility. But fortunately it created lovely hues above the horizon, making the crescent moon shine even in the early morning light.

Can you spot the crescent moon ? :)
