Old vs New

In the early 1900s colossal five story high, 60-foot, steam pumps delivered water to the city of Buffalo. They were eventually replaced by smaller, but very powerful electric pumps, which are still in use.

These mammoth steam pumps still sit along side their smaller replacements, and have attracted attention from pump and steam engine enthusiasts.

These pipes pump the water into different parts of the city. One sends the flow north and the other flows south.

Colonel Ward Pumping Station

Toured this century-old facility again yesterday and got to see some of the outlying buildings that I didn't see the last time I was here a year ago. This long hallway divides the filter plant.
