Timelapse #2 - Teignmouth Harbour Sunset (01.02.2008)

Just uploading a few of my timelapse videos to check out this new Flickr Video stuff. Unfortunately some of my better ones are over 90 seconds long. They run at 15fps, and I've tried to use TMPGEnc to re-encode them at 24fps to shorten them but it's not happening at all - I thought it'd be simple so if anyone knows a way to re-encode XviD at a faster speed, please let me know! (Of course, i've deleted the source images :-s)

Sunset (ish) at Teignmouth harbour. Bit of a shame - was a lovely afternoon, sky was full of delicious sunset colours but by the time I got down to the pier I was presented with this great big fuck-off cloud. Still, clouds are cool in timelapse even if grey isn't.

Fløyen Sunset, Bergen, Norway

Bergen is surrounded by The Seven Mountains (de syv fjell). We took the funicular up the Fløyen mountain to experience one of the most amazing sunsets ever.

This picture was actually taken by my brother (best be honest) whilst he was with us in Scandinavia for 10 days - he took his D-SLR so got much better pictures, I didn't have a Bergen sunset that matched this! And yes, it was as gorgeous as this photo suggests, and then some.

We all know the scene. Evening sun, warm air, cool breeze, waves lapping at the shore. We all know the scene.

I like the depth of field and colour on this very much. I cropped it down to this format a long time ago as the sun was obviously a bit blown out, but I'm tempted to pop her back in anyway...

The composition of this one really works for me, with the cloud top, the horizon at half way, and the big sun looming over the beach folk. Cheesy subject matter I guess, but I like it.

Love this one. Was taken on Christmas Day too so reminds me of family fun. Really like the eccentric colours, the sea is beautiful, the almost moon-like sand in the bottom right, and the bank of cloud which somehow has sat there perfectly to compliment the vanishing point.

Shame about the blown out sun, I don't really know how to combat that with the limited equipment and motivation I have. A shame as it's kind of the only blot (along with the slightly mismatched contrast it encourages) on what would be a real nice photo otherwise.

Make sure you're viewing this at the proper angle with your LCD monitor, as the foreground crops are deceptively dark, but at the proper angle and full size this shot actually has beautiful colour in the greens as well as in the sunset. A classic example of one you need to view in large and on a black background really. Lovely sunset and great layered clouds.

Savannah-like Sunset in Mules Park

I'm a sucker for these dark orange sunsets behind trees. Always imagine they could be taken in an African savannah with lions and giraffes and whatnot about. This one wasn't obviously, it's just Mules Park in Teignmouth.

I'm back on the timelapses. Well, actually this is from a couple of months ago, I've only just got round to encoding it though.

Back up in Mule's Park, one of my favourite spots for chilling and one that has featured in my timelapses before. I enjoy this one, not least because the composition with the tree and the path makes it a pretty beautiful and serene scene to be looking at regardless of the nature of the timelapse.

Very experimental bit of timelapsing here. Close focus on a branch, the blurred sun out of focus in the far background slowly goes down. It's an interesting idea, not sure how well it works yet but this is the first timelapse where I've focused on the small object rather than the wide landscape.

Always nice to take a good picture on a special day like Christmas, and hey, this one'll do nicely for me. Was a wonderfully colourful sunset, the sort of which'll give you all kinds of faith in the wonder of the festive season. No snow, mind!

Life Belt, Helsingborg, Sweden

I have this weird condition where I never know what to call these red-and-white-lifesaving-equipment-rings. I think life belt is the right term?

Anyway around Sweden there's a whole bunch of these by coasts and waters, marked with the location. So we ended up snapping lots of these wherever we saw them. This is the nicest of those photos, taken on the beach at Helsingborg during a lovely sunset.

I *think* this is the River Spree, anyway. Sunset in Berlin, including the notable presence of one of the city's most famous landmarks, the shitting well massive TV tower.

Helsingborg was a fairly quiet place, but boy does it have a delicious seafront. So serene, so calm and beautiful, so picturesque.

Lots of silhouettes in this album isn't there? Interesting colour on this one though, and of course that cheeky little seagull getting in on the action. Again, low tide on Polzeath beach in Cornwall.

Lovely sunset capturing the top of one of Teignmouth's churches in silhouette. Not sure of the name of the church, please find it in your heart to forgive me. Nice deep oranges.
