Anyone Wanna Buy a House in Austin?

Contact me at wildcard (at) stuckincustoms.com if you are interested in finding out more... this is just a little teaser with some photos.

It's in a great area of the hill country, about 15 mins from downtown (with no traffic!) Austin. The neighborhood is called Jester, and it weaves in and out of a natural preserve. It's mega hilly with tons of trees. Our house, as you can see below from the backyard shot (the fourth one) backs onto a natural preserve... so there is nothing for miles and miles except for little creeks and hilly forests.

The house itself is 5 bedroom, two stories, contemporary design, with all sorts of nice-to-haves. I'm even leaving the media room with the projector, big screen, and all that stuff.

Here is another view of the front of the house at Christmas time.
Sunday Brunch in London

I don't know London very well at all. I can't ever decide if it's a good thing or a bad thing. It's just a thing, I suppose. And it's neither nor.

While walking through the streets you come across places that you should probably know what they are. Or maybe you see a charming old pub and you just assume that it's quite famous. But I don't know. I can't tell one thing from the next...

But I did see this little restaurant one morning. The outside was covered in ivy and flowers, and this old couple was sitting outside on the bench. I don't know why I set up for a picture... it was both mundane and not.

It's hard to believe that the Alamo is just a bit over an hour from Austin. I think I've only driven down there three times since I have lived here, but it's always a good time. On this particular day, the sun was setting and some rather moody Alamo-esque clouds were rolling in... just in time for the tripod!

I could hardly figure out where to look first! I was happy to have a second pair of eyes there with my camera, so I could look at one thing while the lens and attached remote looked at something else! Every 10 minutes the clouds moved and the light changed, creating a different scene as I snapped away in bliss.

You can feel the morning humidity hanging on the air over the lagoon. It was a little after 5 in the morning at Angkor Wat, and a small Cambodian girl had brought me a little chair to sit down in by the water. She also brought coffee and condensed milk, refilling me every 20 minutes or so. I think the chair and the coffee was the the best $2 I ever spent!

While I was in Montana, I was able to stay with a good friend. As part of the "payment" for staying there, I offered to take a few shots of his adorable grandkids. Here is one of the ones that came from the click-fest. This was shot inside of a teepee, which has excellent light reflectivity, for those of you that ever get the urge!

BTW this was shot with a 50 prime, so there was no photoshop blurring...

I was working on this photo this evening with a friend to show him some of the techniques that have evolved since HDR started getting popular. I find my methodology changes and evolves about every two months or so. I look back at my old stuff in horror!

Ah yes... the wet streets of Paris here... Seems like an idyllic place for this little store called Cartier, eh?

The striated Florida clouds seemed to streak across the sky every evening we were there. It was hard for me to drink in all the great photography opportunities there... just too much for the senses! Needless to say, no one got to go on any rides during the sunset hour as I had them all goose-stepping around the park to get good locations that I had secretly been scouting the whole day!
The Red Lights of Melacca at Dusk

Melacca lights up at night. Throughout Chinatown and the surrounding area, every single building has these moody red lights that illuminate the exterior. No matter which way you look, you see glowing red alleys, swinging paper red lights, incense, little stores, little carts, food on the streets, and a lot of activity that goes well past midnight.

From all of these travels and eating in random places, I've built up a GI tract that is robot-like in strength. I now will stop and eat almost anything, anywhere, from any little cart. One great one I found was this little family that was making homemade mini-pancakes that were filled with peanut butter. I think I ate about 25 of them!
Hong Kong from the peak on a summer's night

Stuck in Customs posted a photo:

If you want to see how I made this (and how you can too!), visit my HDR Tutorial. I hope it gives you some new tricks!

I had a long day waking up at 5 AM to take a series of subways and trains up to Shenzen for some meetings. I had a Chinese VISA, which you don't need to get into Hong Kong, but I had to use to cross the official Chinese border after getting off the train. I didn't realize that it was a one-time use VISA, and I had to go to Shanghai the next day. This caused a lot of problems with the Chinese officials, a body of government with which I do not enjoy causing problems.

Anyway, after I got back to Hong Kong after a day in Shenzen, I was hot and sweaty and in the sort of meeting clothes that aren't great for being hot and sweaty in. But, everything about Hong Kong was still awesome and I had too look hard for things to complain about. The sun was setting, and I made it up to The Peak just in time for a shot.

This was a 5-exposure HDR shot at 100 ISO, and, of course, a sturdy tripod to get all the lights as steady as possible.
As I was leaving a network of jagged roads through some mountains at the end of a fjord, I emerged out into this Icelandic fertile crescent of sorts. There were tiny farms all over the countryside and they looked very nice while the sun was setting, so I grabbed this shot to remember it!
La Basilique du Sacre Coeur de Montmartre

This is a famous basilica in Paris. It sits high on a hill and is beautifully lit in the evening. This is the birthplace of the Jesuits back in 1534. That is only interesting to me because I was a Jesuit student myself back in the day. You would think that would mean that I would be allowed to come inside to take all the photos I want with a special key that everyone gets upon graduation. But I had no such key so I was forced to stay on the perimeter with all the other heathens.
