Hello Kitty inspired outfits originally worn by Lady Gaga and Katy Perry. Too bad I won't be in town near the end of the exhibit. There's going to be a Hello Kitty fashion show :)

How awesome is this? If Elvis Kitty on black velvet hadn't already been sold I would've snatched it up immediately. Of the dozens of Hello Kitty paintings, this was probably my favorite.

Looking at people's treasured collections submitted for the collections prizes, that's my favorite part of any county fair. There were a number of cool ones in Alameda and a few strange ones as well. This person has an enormous collection of Target gift cards!

Isn't this a marvelous collection? I love Pez and have a few dispensers I've collected over the years. This collection on display at the Alameda County Fair was breathtaking. It was SO much fun to see!

This was my favorite piece at SFMOMA: David Ireland's A Decade Document, Withcomet, Andcomet, Andstool.

Much of Ireland's work was conceptual installations, one of which was the entire house he lived in at 500 Capp Street in San Francisco. This cabinet is from the bathroom there and within the cabinet are the paper tubes from the toilet paper rolls from 1980 -1990.

It never ceases to amaze me what pieces of artwork we are drawn to. An artist might have hundreds of paintings, yet a few will call out to us especially. And why, out of an entire big museum full of work, is my favorite thing a shelf full of toilet paper and some bathroom cleaner? And yet it is so.

Many modern object art pieces beg the question, "What makes this art?", of course. But alright, I accept this as art and I love it. And you may love it or think it's bunk. And you may love something that I think is ugly as sin. But why?

As always, this musuem visit has given me much to think about.

For the duration of the Three Apples show, Royal/T is offering a special Hello Kitty menu in addition to their regular food. I laughed so hard at the name "School is Fun Ham & Cheese Tramezzini". I actually own the sandwich maker used to make the tramezzinis and this menu has inspired me to dig it out again.

Also fun, the waitresses at Royal/T usually wear anime French Maid outfits. During the exhibit, they have added Hello Kitty rings and big puffy red hair bows to their ensembles.

Oh my goodness, you guys. I went to a Hello Kitty exhibit! Royal/T, a gallery space and cafe in Culver City, is hosting a show called "Three Apples: An exhibition celebrating 35 years of Hello Kitty".

There was tons of memorabilia and all sorts of really cool Hello Kitty art by modern designers and artists. We're talking a Hello Kitty kitchen, clothes, appliances, stationery, toys and collaborations with Paul Frank, Tokidoki, and many others. I took a gazillion photos and had a fabulous time.

Three Apples runs through November 15th and, if you're in the Southern California area, you should really drop by! Even if you aren't a huge HK fan, the exhibit is colorful and amusing, and the signature rose milk tea in the cafe alone will make the visit worthwhile.

This was a large installation hanging from the ceiling and it was so very, very lovely in person. It looked like fairy lights.

If only someone would write a really entertaining book about the history behind the elements. That would be a great read.

What are your favorite elements? Mine are Tungsten and Berkelium (named after my alma mater. Word.)
