My brother liked to sing the theme song and I thought it was a great name and there you go. My Wishbone had attitude too. She, like all cats I guess, was Queen of her Domain, Ruler of the Roost, the King Shit. All food was hers, all laps were hers, no dog defeated her, no obstacle either. <br /> <br /> In the months and years after my dad died, I'd spend a lot of time in the yard with my camera. She would be hanging out somewhere in the kilometres of bush we lived in, but the second I clicked the shutter just once, she was by my side and there she stayed until I was myself again. After my Nana died years later, she simply wouldn't leave me alone. For a long time it felt like I was just surviving each day and she was there while I did it. <br /> <br /> I sang her a song when I came home from work each day (Wishy Wishy Wishy, You are are so pretty, I love you lots and lots, and lots and lots and lots) and she would wait until I was done and then just walk away duly satisfied. I loved that.<br /> <br /> She was 16 and a half when we had her put down last Friday. <br /> <br /> She'd been getting steadily less herself for a while, fighting as her body slowly fell apart. In the last few weeks, she lost all her weight until she was quite literally skin and bone. She couldn't meow any more. On Thursday night, it was really cold, so I popped her into bed with me as I usually do. That night, she wet herself in her sleep and when I woke her to change the sheets, she couldn't walk properly. She just looked at me. <br /> <br /> Our vet Dr Amy said that our pets will tell us when they are ready to &quot;go&quot;. I think that's true, but she didn't know Wishy.
