R.E.M. - It's The End Of The World As We Know It (and I Feel Fine...).

So... this is it.

366 days after it began, the set is finished. And... with this last 366 post on this last day of the year... I am both sad and relieved.
Looking back at the photos, and remembering the days.. I am glad that I did this. 2008 will be a year that I never forget... for reasons both good and bad.

Thank you, Dagmar, for inspiring me to give this thing a go. And to all of my friends and contacts, thank you for continuing to visit and leave such kind comments on the many lackluster and occasionally ridiculous photos that I put into this set.

In 2004, the remnants of Hurricanes Frances and Ivan came through the North Carolina mountains back to back within days of each other.
Less than a mile from where I stand here.. at the banks of the North Fork of the Swannanoa River... lies the dam of the Burnett Reservoir. During Hurricane Frances, 23 inches of rain fell on the high mountains that surround this reservoir.. the main source of drinking water for Asheville.
The flood gates had to be opened, and this gentle stream began to rage.

Four years later.. and I am standing on what once was woodlands

We are not sure of her exact age, as she was around six weeks old when we adopted her in December of 1994. But one thing is for sure.. she has been a wonderful friend and companion for the past 14 years. I only hope that we have made her life as special as she has made ours.

After finding my dad's old information card from the Civil Defense, I was in the mood to rewatch "Trinity and Beyond - the Atomic Bomb Movie". Fascinating from a science and history standpoint... depressing otherwise.
If only I had my two robot friends with me..
