Great to be back, time to say hello, catch up a bit.

Thanks so much for keeping in touch while I was away, really appreciate your visits and comments and notes and such. Keep those cards and letter comin’ folks, always welcomed and encouraging. A little something to share.

It was one of those days, crazy busy, last minute changes and revisions, we’re all scrambling to get the job done, frantic to meet the deadline and no time for lunch. We’re starving.

Finally, late in the afternoon, the sign off. Yippee! Let’s eat.

We went to The Grenadier Restaurant in the middle of High Park. First time I’ve been since they renovated, nice job, a great little place with friendly staff that serves a tasty all day breakfast. Perfect. There’s nothing that hits the spot like a big plate of bacon and eggs served with home fries, cracked wheat toast, peanut butter& jam and a slice of Orange topped off with a tad of parsley.

“…and after we finish eating, how about we take a walk down to the pond, it’s such a gorgeous evening”. What a great idea, a gorgeous evening indeed, the perfect time to take a stroll through the park to see what the creatures are up to.

It was the first real taste of spring in the big smoke this season and our walk in the fresh air was certainly welcomed after being cooped up in the office all day. The sun was just about to set behind the trees and as we turned the corner to approach the pond there it was, the magic moment.

What a wonderful day this turned out to be.

Allan Gardens Conservatory
Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

According to some, Allan Gardens is one of Toronto’s best kept secrets, others call it an oasis in the midst of our great city. Me, I call it a wonderland, a spectacular display of Mother Nature’s finest offerings, summer, winter, rain or shine.

I’m totally in awe each and every time I visit and I visit as often as I can, especially during the winter months when the blustery outdoors are really not my cup’a tea. I much prefer the warmer climes thank you and the tropical atmosphere inside the greenhouses always offers sanctuary from the cold.

Allan Gardens Conservatory is a major historic landmark and tourist attraction in downtown Toronto. Located in one of the oldest parks in the city, its historic, cast-iron and glass domed "Palm House" was built in 1910 and is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act. Allan Gardens has six greenhouses with an area of over 16,000 square feet. These showcase a diverse and beautiful collection of flowers and exotic plants from around the world.

My personal favorites are the Seasonal Displays, each uniquely created and presented for Spring, Easter, Summer, Fall and Christmas. Open to the public year-round, it’s the perfect opportunity for families and people of all ages to celebrate the magic of ever changing seasons.

If you haven’t been, you must make it a point to visit. It’s a photographers dream come true and was recently featured as the backdrop for a morning TV show featuring special guest Mark Cullen, Canada’s number one authority on gardening. Certainly a name you’ll instantly recognize as someone whose advice you trust for all your horticultural endeavours.

Heroes & Ancient Treasures

Ancient Treasures indeed, yet it seems like only yesterday when I traded in my Typewriter for a MAC, wow, what an amazing transition, truly an adventure into the unknown. But as you know, I love a good adventure and making the transition became one of the best moves I have ever made.

Yes of course, it was scary, I didn’t know where to begin, how do I turn this thing on. What’s a floppy, where does it go, what does it do, how do I use it. It was a whole new experience for me, I had so many questions and there was so much to learn.

There was no internet or on-line help where I could simply look up my questions and get instant answers, my only means was to study the manuals, pages and pages of information that appeared to be written in a foreign language. There was talk of RAM, ROM, bits, bytes, software, hardware, analog, digital, apples and windows, the list was endless.

Frankly, I love the computer era and feel fortunate to have become involved in its early stage of development and you know what, even after all these years, I still get excited each and every time I push the power-up button on my machine.

So please join me by saluting the genius of Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, Bill Gates and all the other pioneers who truly transformed our way of life.

Thanks for a fantastic journey.

Three Coins in the Fountain

“what’s that” she said, “what’s that shining in the frozen fountain”. Of course I had to check it out, you just never know what adventure awaits.

For those not familiar with our Canadian Currency, these are our 2 Dollar coins, or more commonly known as “Twoonies”. We also have a one Dollar coin which we affectionately call “The Looney”. Perhaps I’ll do-up a little compo and call it “Looney Twoonies”. Ha! Just a thought, eh!

Although it has different meanings in different cultures, it’s a universal custom to toss a coin in a fountain or stream and make a wish. Most people would drop in a penny or two but six bucks, must be a pretty big wish. No matter, the light was fantastic, a good opportunity to play with my toy and share this little diddie.

It’s certainly good to be back, a busy start to 2013. Happy that everyone had a Merry Christmas and a fabulous New Year. The Holiday Season is my favourite time of the year, love it when family and friends gather to celebrate the occasion. And once again, many thanks for visiting and commenting, really appreciated and welcomed. I always look forward to hearing from you and will do my best to catch up in the next few days.

Happy belated Thanksgiving wishes to all Canadian flickr’ites, hope you had a wonderful holiday with family and friends. lots a’ turkey and stuff, eh! yea, me too.

a little something I brought home from the Farmer’s Market at City Centre, a great place to get fresh supplies for Thanksgiving Dinner, everything from vegetables to fruit to flowers. meat, poultry, fish, you name it, they’ve got it, all locally grown and produced. it doesn’t get much better than that.

while searching for sweet potatoes, this little gem caught my eye. just love those autumn colours, those special tones that only happen at this time of the year, of course I had to take it with me and when it was decorated with a red ribbon and candles, it became a perfect centrepiece for the dinner table.

good to be back, missed y’a. a little something to share from my travels.

every picture tells a story and this is no exception. such an enterprising young man, and not a bad player to boot. he set-up in front of his house to perform for the crowd passing by his doorstep. his offer, "I'll play any tune in the book for a buck". what a deal, something I simply could not refuse.

I opened the catalogue of hits and picked "Michelle", my favourite song by the Beatles. he played and sang it to perfection and when he was finished, it was this lady's turn to make her selection. as you can see by his reaction, her pick was not one of his favourites. regardless, being the entertainer he is and despite his struggles, he played it and played it well. very well in fact. the true sign of a pro to be.

bravo young man. well done.

don't you just love it when a snap like this comes along. love the expressions on both. simply priceless!

hi it's Morley, remember me. thanks for stoppin' by.

pixler's away, busy, busy, at the moment. he gave me a list of his friends and contacts and wants to make sure I say hello, let you know that he'll be back soon to catch up. he's also exploring the last section of the Humber one day this week. congrats are in order, that's a great hike. the Humber has become one of his favourite places to snapp off a few, if he gets anything decent, I'm sure he'll share it.

well, that's about all for now. me and the Ms are headin' out to do some exploring ourselves, take a little trek into the woods to gather a few more supplies for winter. autumn's just around the corner, it's never too soon to start stockin' up on gooddies.

A rare creature indeed and found only in its native habitat along the eastern banks of Trout Creek, in the quaintly picturesque southwestern Ontario community of St. Marys.

Its most pronounced features are the outrageous neon plume and metallic headdress. This shiny crown is unique to the male of the species and used to reflect sunlight to attract the attention of suitable females during mating season, which occurs only on the first day of April each year. This headdress can also be used as a lethal weapon while hunting. Although it has no ill effect on the Farthmore female, the laser like beam of light emitted from the beak instantly paralyzes its prey, rendering it completely helpless.

Farthmores are early risers and inhabit the uppermost branches of black-walnut trees in order to have the best view at the moment of sun-up, at which time they announce daybreak with a truly chilling song that awakens all creatures for miles around.

In the event that your travels take you to St. Marys and should you by chance encounter a Farthmore down by the creek, do not try to get its attention and most of all, do not offer to feed it. Simply walk away. Folklore tells of unfortunate souls who made eye contact with this strange bird and have never been quite the same from that point on. According to the Kawnee-Sakew legend, Farthmores represent the evil spirit of the underworld and must be avoided at all times.

Skeptics are warned to be fully prepared to suffer the consequences.
