we are blessed with over 2 acres of property where we are renting. i went searching for flowers. louis, the gardener took me to the back of the property where we found the orange flowers and the beautiful purple ones, and the little pink ones that look like hearts. this photo doesn't do it justice.

stranger #30 ~ anonymous flower lady

This lady is at the market every monday and thursday selling flowers that she has grown herself. I have bought many bouquets of sweet peas from her, and even some bedding plants that have done well in my garden.

When I asked if she would be in this 100 strangers project she was very cautious when I told her about it. She didn't like the idea of being on the internet. I told her that it was ok .. I didn't need to photograph her. But I think she was flattered ...just freaked out about being posted on the web. She wouldn't give me any personal info. Not even her name.

This is what I know. She lives nearby, and grows all these annuals herself from SEED! That's impressive enough. The flowers that don't sell at the market she either takes to a senior's home or sells them from her house. She is a bright spot at the market, often smiling, and I love that about her.

I did get a shot of her laughing but this one portrayed the 'cautious' side of her so I went with this one. I chose to make this b/w because the original showed the flowers so brilliantly that she was lost in it.

thought I would show you one of my garden's. When we moved here a couple of years ago there was nothing. It has been a labor of love. Everything in here is a perennial so now I just have to basically water it. Don't even weed much because there isn't alot of room for weeds.

I brought alot of my plants from Nova Scotia in Bob's sailboat!! That is the saddest thing about leaving the country is that I can't bring my plants with me.

The plan: give pieces of these to friends so when we come back I can get little pieces back!!

Good idea huh? :-)

I used to work in an antique store and collected handpainted plates for my Mom. After she passed away they became mine. This hangs in the kitchen and the other morning as I was making coffee the light from the sun landed so beautifully on the gold rim.
