Hong Kong is east meets west at it's best, or worse, depends on your taste. However, it's free market economy has certainly bred one of the most pragmatic poplulation on Earth. Since Christmas and Chinese New Year happens within a month of each other this year. This tree killed two birds with one stone.

Spotted this lone tree in a field while flying by on the TGV out side of Paris. The tree felt so still in the vast field, but I was moving so quickly by in the train. It felt like an old man giving his ancient wisdom to a busy young fellow.....slow down and spend some time in the field with me.

I found bits and pieces of a broken mirror next to a garbage dump on the street. Despite the decidedly unappealing surrounding, thought it still made a rather poetic composition. The mirrors look like an escape portal embedded in the asphalt.

Christmas at Lake Tahoe

My daughter's birthday is on Christmas day, so every year we've been going up to Tahoe for a little white Christmas. And every year, I would take the opportunity to take a few B&W landscapes, but my daughter never liked any of my B&W photos.
So this year, I wanted to do a photo she would like.
Lucky enough, there was a blizzard on Christmas night. So, after the birthday party I set out to make a photo. A few hours in a blizzard with a laser pointer and some color filters can do wonders.

This is perhaps one of the most accurate representation of the Christmas spirit in Hong Kong. This "Christmas Tree" blends right in with the usual mecca of money here in Hong Kong. Yes, money CAN buy you anything, even a Christmas tree that's so devoid of any Christmas spirit. Crisscrossed in steel and glass, an utilitarian design intended to inspire you to find a need in useless and overpriced glass bits. I think the real money is to charge people an entrance fee to.... smash it with a sledge hammer and watch it sparkle with destruction. At least the most prominent pubic space in Hong Kong would not have been spoiled by a commercial eye sore in vein.
