The latest A to Z project result was awesome... and so easy to produce! The project was about building pictures up in post-processing, using bits and pieces to get the image you want.

For this one, I took the color version of my favorite b&w of the Park Ave rocks at Arches National Park and simply doubled it. I made a copy of the original (right side), flipped it around, matched it up and voila! As one friend put it, I got a landscape Rorshach!

So this project came out pretty sweet... I put black rebate borders around some old Lion Shrine shots to make a collage on a wall in our house, recycling some old borderless frames in the process.

I know there's programs out there that do this type of border automatically, but it was a lot of fun creating them the "long way" in Photoshop!

This shot was the first of 4 that I applied the effect to, and the prints look great on the wall!!

Thanks to some incredible luck, we got a nice picturesque dusting of snow Saturday night which meant I could finally get pictures of the Nittany Lion shrine with snow on it! I have pictures of the shrine in the other seasons of the year, but never winter with snow. I was so excited to complete the set! This shot was just the first of a few I snagged. (Had to make the most of it!!)

Saturday night was the men's hockey game and the last time for a rivalry - PSU vs. Ohio University. This rivalry in hockey is long and fraught with battles for national titles at the club level. Even though it was technically an exhibition, it did mark the likely end to a long-standing rivalry.

I thought this was a simple shot when I first took it, but upon closer look, I happened upon some symbolism.

From high above, I couldn't see what the logo was on the hockey helmet. Turns out, it was the logo of the construction company that's building the new ice arena that's scheduled to open in the fall. Builders and a women's program that's being built - it works for me.

Sadly, it was our last PSU hockey weekend of the 2012-2013 season. Since the men's home game for Friday night got moved to Hershey, the ladies' team took center stage!

Unfortunately, my game action shots didn't turn out too well, so there's none to post. But I did get some atmospheric shots, like this one of the zamboni for kicks.

It's been a big first year of varsity hockey for Penn State. They're doing pretty well for a first-year team, and they were invited to play in the first-ever Philadelphia College Hockey Faceoff against the University of Vermont.

Naturally, we snagged tickets as soon as we could, so we had plumb seats at center ice! Given the crowds expected at the Flyers game just prior to this one, and the sell-out that this game was (a new record crowd for college hockey in PA!!), I left the big camera at home. I snagged this shot of the opening draw with the panoramic feature on my phone. Not too shabby, all things considered!

I was doing some desktop clean-up today and realized that I never uploaded a couple of shots that I used for a local art show late last summer.

This shot was the first of 2 I entered. It's the historic Colonial Theater in Phoenixville, PA. Fans of the cult classic "The Blob" will recognize this theater as the one that the moviegoers run out of at the start of the flick. (And that's why they have a little festival called Blobfest each July!!)

Day 366 of 365 - The End (1288_fix)

Well, thanks to 2012 being a leap year, I had 366 days in which to take pictures. Today is the last day, so I thought a picture of our dog giving me the "are you done yet?" look as an appropriate way to end the project.

I started this project with high hopes of it being creative everyday. Even though reality set in and the creativity level wasn't quite what I aspired to, I did stick with it to completion and only missed 3 days total. Considering the hectic year we've had, that's not bad at all. While it may not have been the most creative, it did give me an interesting way to chronicle what became an unusual year for us overall.

I'm not sure if I'll do this type of project again, but I do like having a long project like this to work on. I think the next project I undertake will definitely have more creativity, probably because I won't put myself under the "every single day"-type pressure/monotony a 365 Project can cause.

It's certainly been a learning experience, so I'm happy I saw this project through to the end.

While I was working in the basement, I came across my stash of old cassette tapes from my radio days in college where I had my own weekly sportstalk show and did play-by-play of the men's ice hockey games. I've pared down the pile over the years, but there's still a lot left and it's time to digitize things. That project will certainly take a while!

What I was surprised to find was not just cassettes - I even had a couple of DAT tapes and a minidisk! Now there's some obsolete and somewhat obscure technology for geeks out there!!

I spent the bulk of the last 2 days working in the basement to clean it out thoroughly to get rid of crap that's accumulated over the last year or two, and to make room so we can get the ceiling fixed just after the new year. Believe it or not, even with the piles of trash/donations/recycling lying about, this scene was a massive improvement from where we started and it was a good job done!!

Finally home after our trip, and the first order of business was to unpack and food shop. I handled the unpacking while my husband got food for the house. He snagged some fresh sourdough and some dip as a treat. This loaf - for whatever reason - hit the spot moreso than usual, so a picture had to be taken.
