Again, I have a recollection of the map once looking a little different, before they added a few new critters (some of which are not shown).

When was that? Late 1960's? Early '70s?

Somewhere in storage I have one of these maps framed. A little matching green frame, it used to hang next to my big easy chair facing the TV.

Rex on the road

There's the famous T-Rex that you'll be sure to spot as you approach on Highway 101.

As a kid, my family and I always called him 'Smiley'.

Very pleased to see Smiley back wearing something like his original colors.
I guess it was sometime in the '90s, (post 'Jurassic Park') that he and some of the other statues received new, more-menacing 'extreme' paint jobs.

Bringing back his old brown-and-yellow, but combining it with gently realist scaly detail seems to me like a very pleasant compromise.

There's the Brachiosaurus in the background to the left, peeking through the trees from the other side of the fence. I have a childhood recollection of him being a newer addition, still under construction one Summer vacation as my family passed through.
That dim memory could even be the truth, I suppose.

Hey, there's my car, too. Packed to the gills and weighed down with the stuff I could carry moving back to California from Idaho.
(I took the scenic route, for a cathartic change)

Walking along the path, you get glimpses and echoes of other folks on different sections of the circuit.

Every now and then you'll hear peals of 'Awww, so cute!!' coming from this vicinity.
