November 1945. While there is no description, the date leads me to believe that this was taken in the area of Marseilles, France, while the photographer and may other troops were preparing to return to the United States via that port.

France, November 1945. While there was no additional information on the back of the photo, the date makes me suspect this was taken in Marseilles, France, shortly before the photographer returned to the United States via that port.

November 24, 1945. While the image is dated, there is no further information. However, based on other images and the date I'm almost certain this was taken somewhere in France close to the date the photographer returned to the United States.

It seemed fitting to pause while posting images of World War Two to honor one of the last three surviving members of the Doolittle Raid, Major Thomas C. Griffin who passed away at the age of 96 today. My wife was fortunate to take two of the three survivors on a VIP tour of the Boeing Everett assembly plant in 2008. She was given this memento and this are actual signatures.

I'm sure General Doolittle and the rest of the gang was happy to see you again. Well done Major Griffin. With eternal thanks to you and all the other veterans that have defended our freedom.

Not sure about "Oscar." Obviously a high-wing small airplane and not a bomber. I suspect it is an artillery spotter plane and possibly the pilot's name was Oscar.
