Under Nicolae Ceausescu Blandiana's writings were banned after a "seditious" poem she wrote about the dictator: "Motanul Arpagic" (Tom Cat Onion)...
After 1990 she was active in the "Alianta Civica" which helped bring to the fore the first democratic government in Romania (1996-2000).
Below is one of Blandiana's ""engaged" poems about the status of women under communism:

“An entire people,
Not yet born,
But condemned to birth,
In columns before birth
Foetus beside foetus,
An entire people,
Which does not see, does not hear, does not understand,
But moves forward.
Through writhing bodies of women,
Through the blood of mothers

American-born Winaretta Simger has also helped considerably the career of the Romanian pianist Clara Haskill, Here, in Winnaretta's Paris salon Clara Haskil met Dinu Lipatti and Georges Enesco.

Antonio de La Gandara (December 16, 1861 - June 30, 1917) was a painter, pastellist and draughtsman.

He was born in Paris, France, but his father was of Spanish ancestry, born in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, and his mother was from England. La Gandara's talent was strongly influenced by both cultures. At only 15 years of age, Gandara was admitted as a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Cabanes at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Soon, he was recognized by the jury of the 1883 Salon des Champs-Elysées, who singled out the first work he ever exhibited: a portrait of Saint Sebastian.

Less than ten years later, young Gandara had become one of the favourite artists of the Paris elite. His models included Countess Greffulhe, the Grand Duchess of Mecklenburg, the Princess of Chimay, the Prince de Polignac, the Prince de Sagan, Charles Leconte de Lisle, Paul Verlaine, Leonor Uriburu de Anchorena, Sarah Bernhardt, Romaine Brooks, Jean Moreas, and Winnaretta Singer. Influenced by Chardin, his unique skill is demonstrated in his portraits, in a simplicity with the finest detail.

Marie of Edinburgh, Princess of Great Britain published in London her Memoirs and scores of children's stories illustrated by Dulac.
The Queen is photographed here in the garden which she designed on the shore of the Black Sea. Here she is on the terrace of her castle in Balcic (now in Bulgaria) dressed in the traditional Romanian peasant garb which she made fashionable amongst the Romanian aristocracy.

HM Queen Anne de Romania nee Princess of Bourbon-Parme is a direct Descendant of Ieremia Movila, Prince of Moldavia

Anne de Romania met Michael in 1947, at the wedding of Princess Elizabeth, now Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain.
Anne and Michael were engaged and married the following year. By that time Michael was forced to abdicate, which means that the title of Queen is only a courtesy title, currently used in Romania.
Anne was born in Paris, Princess of Bourbon Parme and of Denmark.
During the Second World War she enrolled as a volunteer in the "Rochembaud Regiment" which liberated Paris.

Regina Ana entered the history of Romania and was able to visit her country of adoption, only after Ceausescu was removed from power. This first visit was fraught with danger, as the neo-communist authorities curtailed the royal couple’s visit in 1990, in a manner redolent of Stalinist practices. She was expelled from the country within hours of entering Romania. As the daughter of a Danish Royal (Margarethe of Denmark), a grand daughter of Princess Marie d’Orléans, and of Zita the last Empress of Austria-Hungary, Queen Ana is a descendant of Marie Lesczynska and therefore of the ancient Moldavian princely family of Ieremia Movilà, Patron of Bukovinian monasteries. Prince Ieremia Movilà’s reign in Moldavia (1595 – 1600 and 1600 – 1606) marked the country’s late Renaissance flowering in a manner which had not happened before or since.

Bunica materna a lui Stanislas Lesczinski (socrul lui Ludovic XV) era Maria Ana Printesa Jabolonowska (1643-1687) nascuta contesa Kasanowska, iar bunica materna a acesteia din urma era Domnita Maria Movila ( 1591-1638) (fata lui Ieremia Voda), domnita moldoveanca al carui sot era Contele Stefan Potocki, Palatin de Wroclaw si prin care casatorie era cunoscuta in Polonia drept Marya Mohylanka.
Aceasta inseamna, bine inteles, ca prin stramosii ei Movilesti, Regina Ana de Romania se trage, prin Iermia Voda Movila, chiar din Petru Rares si din Stefan cel Mare si Sfant, iar prin acesta din urma din Dragos Voda primul descalecator al Moldovei.

Despre domnita Maria Movila contesa Potocka ne vorbeste istoricul Constantin GANE (1885-1962) in celebra lui lucrare "Trecute Vieti de Doamne si Domnite".

HRH Princess Elisabeta of Romania (1894 - 1956) was the daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie.
She was maried in Bucharest to the crown prince of Greece, later to become King George II of the Hellenes.
In 1922, on the accession of King George II to the throne, but only a year later, in 1923, the couple was forced into exile, in Italy.
Elisabeta was most unhappy both with her lifestyle in Greece and with her in-law family and in 1935 she divorced and returned to Romania, where she lived until the advent of the communist regime in 1947. There after she lived in exile in France where she died in Cannes, on the Cote d'Azur.
Her former residence in Bucharest, the "Palatul Elisabeta" is now uthe official residence of her grand niece, Princess Margarita de Romania.

Youngest daughter of King Ferdinand and Queen Marie of Romania, married to King Alexander of Yugoslavia. After her husband's assassination in Marseilles she lived most of her widowhood in England where she died and is buried in the Royal mausoleum of Frogmore, near Windsor,
In this picture Marioara, as she was endearingly known in Romania (Mignon to her family) looks uncannily like her maternal great grandmother, Queen Victoria, when she was young.

The official wedding photograph of Ileana and Anton. They were married in Sinaia and lived in Austria until the war when they took uo residence at castle Bran, in Transylvania, which Ileana inherited from her mother, the late Queen Marie of Romania.

After the abdication of her nephew King Mihai and the advent of communism Ileana lived in exile and eventually settled in the USA where she founded the Orthodox Convent of the Transfiguration, as Abbess Mother Alexandra.

she became by marriage Queen of Yugoslavia and after her husband's assassination and following WWII she lived in England where she died
As a gret granddaughter of Queen Victoria she is burried together with the other British Royal Family at Frogmore near Windsor.
