Interiors of the ruined Apsidal Temple alias Chaityagriha at Lalitagiri, part of the Buddhist Diamond Triangle, Orissa. At Lalitagiri Relic Caskets has been excavated by The ASI (Archaeological Survey of India), one of which supposed to contain Tooth of Buddha , known as "Tooth Rellic".

The largest monastery of Ratanagiri is of 55sq metre in area with a surrounding veranda with 60 pillars. Built around a courtyard the entrance to the monastery is through an extensively decorated gateway. Ratangiri is a part of Buddhist Diamond Triangle at Orissa

Statue of Buddha in "Bhumisparsha" Mudra (posture) inside a Ruined Monastery at Udayagiri - I, part of the Buddhist Diamond Triangle, Orissa, India.

Technically speaking "Bhumisparsha" posture should be Buddha touching the earth with his finger. But different artisans have used different way to depict this mudra. In Orissa , the fingers are just above ground, while in Bylakuppe at Karnataka, only one finger of the statue touches the ground.

Demon Mara attacked Siddhartha with armies of monsters to frighten him from his seat under the bodhi tree. He claimed the seat of enlightenment for himself. Mara's monstrous soldiers cried out together claiming to be his witness! When Mara challenged Siddhartha to bring his witness, Siddhartha reached out his right hand to touch the earth. Then the earth itself roared as his witness.

That was enough to get Mara and his soldiers disappear. Next morning, Siddhartha Gautama realized enlightenment and became a Buddha.

Out of the several panels on the walls of Sridhar temple, here the upper panel depicts the exchange of child during Lord Krishna's birth where the lower panel shows the marriage of Lord Shiva.

Out of the several interesting panels of Sridhar Temple at Sonamukhi this one depicts the birth of the creator of the world - Bramha from the naval of Lord Bishnu lying in Anantashyana posture on the snake Ananta as described in Hindu Mythology.

Sridhar Temple, Sonamukhi

One of the Five 25 Pinnacled temples of West Bengal, Sridhar temple is a small double storied structure as compared to its giant cousin temples of Kalna and Sukharia. However, the terracotta work on its wall is more unique as compared to the rest of the four structures. At present the temple is covered with many undergrowths and trees on its roof, which is damaging the temple roof and walls. There is immediate requirement of renovation to save this temple from getting destroyed in the future.

I saw her on the banks of Ajoy River on a chilly winter morning of Makar Sankranti at Kenduli fair, Birbhum. She was singing in the name of God on her own with a small musical instrument called "Khanjani". She was in a trance and so was absorbed in her own world that she was crying while performing her musical act.

Ruined Durga Dalan (Place for worship of Durga Puja - Worship of Goddess Durga) at Kalikapur, a small hamlet at Burdwan District. Built by Paramananda Roy in 1761, this structure has been shooting location of many films. At present it is in shambles where locals have made a temporary haystack godown. Durgapuja still takes place at a low scale in the part of the mansion (white painted portion) which has survived the vagaries of time.

Kalikapur can be reached by a half an hour to 45 minutes drive either from Panagarh or from Bolpur. There are other mansions too at Kalikapur along with two beautiful Terracotta Deul Temples. Adjoining village Moukhira also has an old Mansion along with many temples.

Although the Giant Brindabanchandra temple does not have rich terracotta panels like its neighbouring Ramchandra temple, it is compensated by Fresco painting in it inner walls and ceiling.
