The tower of the Tubingen Stiftskirche was never completed due to a lack of funds. The onset of the Napoleonic Wars motivated the Duke hastily to add a tower to the stump atop this church. A watchman lived in this tower with his family until 1969.

Legend says that two peasants went for a walk in the woods near Tuebingen, but only one came back. Believing this man to have murdered his missing companion, the Duke of Wuerttemberg had him broken on the wheel. When the other man turned up a week later, the duke was directed to do penance by paying for a window to commemorate the martyrdom of St. George, which also took place on the wheel.

The Cistercian Monastery at Bebenhausen was occupied for over five hundred years. The compound, wealthy from the copying of books, was protected by two high walls.
