Canberra WT308

[Nocturne] posted a photo:

WT308 was built against a 1951 contract as a B(I)6 and was the second airframe of only 19 Canberras of this type - although one other, XG554, was added to the contract in 1954. The B(I)6 was an interim mark of Canberra produced as an Interdictor whilst the RAF awaited its B(I)8s. Essentially a B.6 airframe, the B(I)6s were modified to take a bomb-bay fitted 4x20 mm gunpack and underwing pylons for bombs and rockets. The B(I)6 in RAF service served only with 213 Sqn in Germany, the first of the RAFG Night Intruder Squadrons formed at RAFG Alhorn in July 1955 and later moving to RAFG Bruggen.

WT308 was taken on to RAF charge in May/June 1955. However, with only enough time, possibly, for its acceptance servicing, it was transferred to the charge of the Royal Aircraft Establishment in December of the same year and so it didn't actually see service with 213 Sqn.

It was recorded at RAE's Western Flight (at Farnborough) in 1975 at which time WT308 was painted all over white with pillar-box red nose and tail and the RAE badge on one side of the nose.

Incidentally, WT308's companion aircraft on RAE's Western Flight included a Hawker Hunter T.7 - XL563.

WT308 was put in RAE store at Farnborourgh in October 1988 and languished there for a number of years. It was then moved here to rust in peace.
Elmer The Patchwork Elephant

[Nocturne] posted a photo:

There was once a herd of elephants. Elephants young, elephants old, elephants tall or fat or thin. Elephants like this, that or the other, all different but all happy and all the same colour. All, that is, except Elmer.

Elmer was different. Elmer was patchwork. Elmer was yellow and orange and red and pink and purple and blue and green and black and white.

Elmer was not elephant colour.

It was Elmer who kept the elephants happy. Sometimes he joked with the other elephants, sometimes they joked with him. But if there was even a little smile, it was usually Elmer who started it.

One night Elmer couldn't sleep for thinking, and the think that he was thinking was that he was tired of being different. "Whoever heard f a patchwork elephant?" he though. "No wonder they laugh at me."

In the morning before the others were really awake, Elmer slipped quietly away, unnoticed.

As he walked through the jungle, Elmer et other animals.

They always said: "Good morning, Elmer." Each time, Elmer smiled and said: "Good morning."

After a long walk, Elmer found what he was looking for - a large bush. A large bush covered with berries, a large bush covered with elephant coloured berries. Elmer caught hold of the bush and shook it and shook it so the berries fell on the ground.

Once the ground was covered in berries, Elmer lay down and rolled over and over - this way and that way and back again. Then he picked up bunches of berries and rubbed himself all over, covering himself with berry juice until there wasn't a sign of any yellow, or orange, or red, or pink, or purple, or blue, or green, or black, or white.

When he had finished, Elmer looked like any other elephant.

After that Elmer set off back to the herd. On the way, he passed the other animals again.

This time each one said to him: "Good morning, elephant." And each timeElmer smiled and said: "Good morning," pleased that he wasn't recognised.

When Elmer rejoined the other elephants, they were all standing quietly. None of them noticed Elmer as he worked his way to the middle of the herd.

After a while Elmer felt that something was wrong. But what? He looked around: Same old jungle, same old bright sky, same old rain cloud that came over from time to time and lastly same old elephants. Elmer looked at them.

The elephants were standing absolutly still. Elmer had never seen them so serious before. The more he looked at the serious, silent, still standing elephants, the more he wanted to laugh. Finally he could bear it no longer. He lifted his trunk and at the top of hi voice shouted:

BOOO!

The elephants jumped and fell all ways in surprise. "Oh my gosh and golly!" they said - and then saw Elmer, helpless with laughter.

"Elmer," they said. "It must be Elmer." Then the other elephants laughed too, as they had never laughed before.

As they laughed, the rain cloud burst and when the rain fell on Elmer, his patchwork started to show again. The elephants still laughed as Elmer was washed back to normal. "Oh Elmer," gasped an old elephant. "You've played some good jokes, but this has been the biggest laugh of all. It didn't take you long to show your true colours."
"We must celebrate this day every year," said another. "This will be Elmer's Day. All elephants must decorate themselves and Elmer will decorate himself elephant colour."

That is exactly what the elephants do. On one day a year they decorate themselves and parade. On that day if you happen to see an elephant ordinary elephant colour, you will know it must be Elmer.

I think this is the one people have been waiting for. My sons favourite Toy Story toy, all we hear all day is "To Infinity and Beyond" along with the other sayings and lazer sounds. All in good fun though, Toy Story is one of the biggest films of a few generations and I can't believe I've waited this long to do this. Also another print for my son's room.

Last location and last shot of the night.

It was really cold by now, so we set up our cameras in the church yard, Phil did the lighting then we parked the car just outside the gate about 5ft away from the cameras and sat in the warmth while we were exposing. Was meant to be a 30 minute trail but ended up as 40 minutes as we lost track of the time.

This is a new thing i'm trying doing higher ISO trails to get a few more stars in the sky and I think it works pretty well.

This is the most dangerous picture I have ever taken, I risked my life to get it. I climbed down the side of a bridge in the middle of the countryside, I set up my camera about 2/3 ft away from the track and started doing my light painting and star trail. I did not know a train would be along soon let alone 4. after I had risked my life light painting the inside and outside of the tunnel I sat back on the hill clutching my tripod as trains roared past extremely fast, was quite scary and I do not fancy doing it again. So its a good job it came out good. Enjoy

Kurt Cobain has always been a hero of mine, a great guitarest, not the best role model but still a hero of the 90's loved by millions, and like most artists became bigger than ever after they died.

This is a 20inch model I have of Kurt Cobain, 10 years after he died they found a few hundred of these in a warehouse that they never knew existed, then sold them off, I was lucky enough to get one along with my other Nirvana merchandise.

Photoshopped the Nirvana 20th in and Kurt Cobain autograph. It's nice to pay homage to our heros, and I have done so.

Me and a few friends went down to give the old boy a good send of with one last shoot because they have cleared all the planes out apart from this one.

I honestly get a bit emotional when I'm round this plane I've always had a strong connection with it and when first meeting it 4 years ago it's bin a good friend to my night shoots, but I was even more emotional this time because I knew it was the last time I would shoot it.

So this is my memorial to the Avro Shackleton.

The night was nearly ruined by a homeless guy routing through the bins next to the compound but we managed to lose him.
