the triforium, a 1975 sculpture with a mixed history ("too expensive to fix, but too expensive to tear down").

it's always the rainbow sculptures that have maintenance problems.

the hall of justice, damaged in the 1994 northridge earthquake and just recently being renovated to serve as the new sheriff's department headquarters.

i like buildings in city downtowns that are weirdly empty - see also the pacbell building in sf and this one in nyc. it's good when they get renovated and re-used, but it's also interesting to think about un-noticed dead zones in otherwise busy places. telephone switching buildings are like this too - secretly empty of people (almost).

la's at&t microwave tower, as always.

not one of the most famous landmarks of downtown la, but i like it - an admirable effort at making a messy piece of infrastructure into part of the skyline. the tower was in use from 1961 to 1993.
