A view from the north east. The 14th century Lady Chapel is at the east end of Lichfield cathedral. The windows are tall with trefoil tracery in decorated gothic style. Glass is plain as the Herkenrode stained glass windows were removed. The choir has two rows of windows also with tracery and is supported by flying buttresses. Arcaded parapet runs round the top of the eastern part of the cathedral. 13th century chapter house is further west, left side of the picture, then the north transept. The central tower is visible above it.

13th century west front of Lichfield Cathedral is flat, there are octagonal towers on both sides. The front has three stages. The lowest has three doorways with arcading above them. The second had two rows or arcading and is divided in two parts by a large window restored in the 19th century. The third stage consists of the lower part of two towers. There are two belfry windows at this level. The whole front is decorated with flowery patterns, especially in the spaces above the doorways, and ball flowers (button shaped decorations) in the upper parts. 113 niches are filled with 19th century statues.

Pier shafts in the choir of Lichfield Cathedral do not reach the ground, instead they are finished with corbels in the form of angels.They were added by sir Gilbert Scott who renovated the cathedral in the 19th century.

Prevalent forms in Lichfield Cathedral. Three petal flowers in a circle of the clerestory window, four petal flowers in the tracery of the triforium and five petal flowers in the spandrels of the arcade, capitals decorated with leaves. It all looks lovely. HDR
