Thomas Jefferson: The Master of Monticelo (for Smithsonian magazine)

This is one of my favorite projects of the last year. Smithsonian magazine commissioned me to create two twin portraits of President Thomas Jefferson for the special issue on him and his secrets. The black and white version would symbolize the two different sides of this historical personality.

The great team of Smithsonian Institute have provided me historical documents that have served as the constructing elements of the mosaic.

The portrait is partially based on Rembrandt Peale's portrait of Thomas Jefferson because it reflects the mysterious part of Jefferson's personality.

I have tried to "steal" something from the characteristic sunset colors of Southern California wishing I could be there these two weekends.

An "unofficial and unauthorized" ad I made for the Apple iPhone. A girl made out of numbers holding an iPhone and calling.
Of course I am waiting to see the iPhone campaign when it will come out. And surely it wont be like this. But I liked to play a little bit with my beloved typo-mozaics and the new phone. I am sure the final ad will be more human oriented than mine.

Typeface used in the typo-mozaic is PFCatalog Normal, Bold, Black, Light and Italic, designed by Panos Vasileiou. www.parachute.gr
