Well, we survived the first night in the new house, Flix (Flickr) used his littler tray at 2.00am so I had to get up and sort it as the stench was appalling, he then settled down upstairs under the bedroom chair and slept quietly. I was woken by someone working in their garden at 2.30am, breaking rocks or something, quite bizarre. Couldn't see where it was but somewhere way down behind me, had to shut the bedroom window and I don't like sleeping with no fresh air. First job this morning, shopping, let all my food run down so now have very little in the cupboards and freezers. This is Flix a few moments ago resting after a difficult night!

A trip on the Tiger Cub. A short film when I had the privilege to be the only passenger from Barry Island to the Depot on Sunday. The strange effect on the windscreen is the polariser on my camera interacting with the glass of the screen.

I won't pretend to be happy about the new-look flickr, because I'm not, it's gone from a user-friendly interactive site to an ugly unworkable (for me) monstrosity. For the last seven years I have enjoyed my time here on flickr, made many friends on-line and in real-time but somehow I now feel I have lost something. Yes, I know all my friends are still here but I can't help but feel that flickr has put an obstacle in the way of our continued friendship. I'm not going to abandon flickr so have decided to take a step back from uploading photos for a short while to think about the best way forward for me with this new site. I shall continue to visit and see what you are all uploading and hopefully in a few weeks time I will feel like participating again.

Souvenirs from the shop days. I guess the minimum age for some of these pencils is 35 years, and the older ones probably 50 years!

Sailing barge 'Duplicate'

Last evening at Camera Club I was handed a number of envelopes, the donor said if they were no use to throw them away. The envelopes contained contact prints of various subjects including an envelope marked 'Hastings' which contained a few photos of ships; this is one of them. Clearly this is not Hastings and by enlarging the tiny print one can just make out the name 'Duplicate' on the stern of this sailing barge. 'Duplicate' traded in the Thames and Medway estuaries so this photo is probably somewhere in the locality.

In our town of Bridgend in South Wales there are a number of buildings which have been saved from demolition but are no longer in use for the purpose for which they were built. One such complex is the large site housing the former General Post Office with pedestrian access from Court Road and vehicular access from Station Hill and Derwen Road. The post office closed in the early 1970s when it moved to its new location in Dunraven Place but the sorting office remained on the site for a while after that date before moving to a new location on Tremains Road.

Way back in July 1974 I visited the Gower Show and busily took numerous photographs of the event, attempting to capture a complete flavour of the day little knowing how fascinating the photos would be decades later.

Not sure why I didn't get the whole of this ice cream van into the shot, but it little matters now. At the time it was quite decrepit a specimen as ice cream vans go, clearly having had a tough life judging by all the dents and dings all over. Looks like a Commer and I suspect from the late 50s or early 60s so coming to the end of its life.

Now a desirable collector's item, I wonder if this survived another summer, I doubt it, but if it's still around I guess it's worth quite a bit. Vintage ice cream vans are quite rare you know!

Although I clearly recall the circumstances under which I was out and about in February 1981 photographing local railway scenes, i have no recollection whatsoever of visiting this location. In fact, if you had asked if I'd ever been to Tondu Station, I'd have said No. But the evidence is there so Tondu I must have visited. I believe I am looking North here from the platform that was on the branch that went to Pyle.
