A tiny sea snail, barely visible under the sand near the lower left corner of this image, seems to be lost, leaving rambling tracks all over the sand on Shi Shi Beach in Olympic National Park, Washington.

Beetle and Tracks, Juniper Dunes, Washington

A beetle crosses a rippled sand dune, leaving tiny tracks in the Juniper Dunes Wilderness, located near Pasco, Washington. The sand dunes are remnants of the last ice age. A glacial dam near Missoula, Montana would regularly break, spilling water all over Eastern Washington. These dunes are located on what was essentially a flood plain.
