The "sunset" was disappointing, but what followed was a pleasant surprise.
Totally gray sky while the sun was setting, followed by a 5-minute shower.
Once the sun was below the horizon, we got some color for 10 minutes.

She'll always return to shore to eat them.

These wading birds don't mind getting their feet & legs wet, but prefer not to get wet all over; therefore, they will hover over deep water where fish are feeding at the surface.
If lucky, they get only their bill wet.

He kept opening his beak and bobbing his head around, as though he had something stuck in his throat, but stopped doing it after a few minutes.

An infrequent visitor to the lake. Usually, they hang out near the Atlantic Ocean, around the marinas, and along the Intracoastal Waterway.
When one does show up where I live, inland, they usually sit out in the middle of the lake, too distant to get a photo. Even this shot required heavy cropping.
