An old fashioned flowering tree from my part of the world. It grows wild in the wooded hills of Ohio and Pennsylvania and resembles random brush strokes of white paint against the new, pale green May trees covering the landscape. As if Monet had gathered up his paints and visited our woods in the night.

of thousands of books at the local public library. That's where I go (to deeply inhale) after a tense day at work or before an anticipated tense evening. So this day I sat in the children's room of the library and read a hundred pages of 'From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler' by E.L. Konigsburg who died recently. That booked charmed me as an adult and gave me fuel to become an adventurer in less than family-approved ways. I'm sitting here today, posting photos and communicating with people far away because Mrs. Konigsburg inspired me along the way. Rest in peace, dear lady.

March 11, 1997: The Saints Augustine and Columba. This issue will commemorate the 1,400th anniversary of the death of St. Columba and the arrival of St. Augustine in Britain. The four stamps will picture St. Columba on the 26p and 31p values while St. Augustine appears on the 37p and 43p.

To every museum there is a museum shop

and many small museums without state funding rely upon income from those shops. I am a complete pushover for things sold in museum shops. I hope future generations will take that into consideration when they sort through and dispose of my odd collection of vaguely historical bits and pieces.
