Chris Frear posted a photo:

It's been a rainy week here in Scotland, with little opportunity to get out with the camera, so I am been looking through some old images.

This is an environmental portrait of a neighbour who restores and rides vintage British Motorcycles. Taken in 2011, I'd dismissed this shot in favour of another taken from a slightly different angle.

Freshly restored 750cc Rickman Triumph. Photographed for a friend in the back field.

Shoot watched by flock of annoyed sheep (they though we'd come to feed them) Came back covered in sheep shit from trying to get this low angled shot. Taken using Minolta 5D using 70-210 f4 "Beercan" zoom lense. Avialble light onlu, colour balance tweaked in lightroom.

For preference I prefer this shot overthe previous one which can be found here
www.flickr.com/photos/radiochris/2527829849/ which was shot witha Canon 30D and off camera flash. Both have there merits but I think I prefer this one. Wish I could afford a Minolta (sorry Sony) A700.

Comments welcome.

A restored 1938 Rudge Special Motorcycle sits ready for its first post restoration run.

A local friend restores vintage motorcycles for a hobby, about 18 months ago he started his latest project to restore a 1938 Rudge Special. It really was a ground up project, the bike arriving as a collection of rusty pieces in a cardboard box see here ; for a shot of the bike in pieces prior to restoration.

Once a year, the hills above Thornhill reverberate to the sound of motorcycle engines for the annual vintage motorcycle scramble.

I'm not a huge motorcycle fan, but its my one serious dose of action photography a year.

Run by the Scottish Classic Racing Motorcycle Club, this year its going to be held on the 5th July. Its a real friendly event, run by great people.
Man With A Van

Chris Frear posted a photo:

I've seen this van around the area several times over the past few years but never been able to get a picture of it. So when it passed us on our way to the tip... sorry, “Council Recycling Centre” we followed it and luckily it was heading to the same place. The bemused owner allowed me to take a photo of himself and his pride and joy after he'd unloaded.

Its not just that it was a vintage Morris Minor Van in this age of white vans that makes this vehicle stand out. For me it's the wording “Ships Stores Worldwide” on the side. Nithsdale where I live is inland, granted not a great distance from the sea, but enough to make the sign humorous to anyone who sees it travelling about locally. The van is obviously enjoying a second life in retirement travelling around the Scottish Borders.

Joesph P. Lamb & Sons were ships agents established in 1784 in Liverpool. They were also Ships Chandlers, Engineers Merchants, Sail and Flagmakers who's slogan was "Anything from a needle to an Anchor."

I photograph people of character, real people, no celebrities or wannabe models. Maybe its not the current vogue, but they are real people, not retouched to the point where they look unreal.

Chris Frear posted a photo:

Freshly restored 750cc Rickman Triumph. Photographed for a friend in the back field.

Shoot watched by flock of annoyed sheep (they though we'd come to feed them) Came back covered in sheep shit from trying to get this low angled shot. Background underexposed, 430ex off camera to camera left with lee cto filter over flash head to add some warmth. Photographing chrome isn't easy.

Comments welcome.
