Just behind the opulent extravagance of the Temple of the Emerald Buddha stands Wat Phra Chetuphon, which is more commonly known by its old name of Wat Po. Most western tourists don't get past the temple's huge reclining Buddha, but there is actually much more to see than the one colossal statue.
The Lost World / Wat Si Sawai / Sukhothai (Thailand)

Situated among magnificent scenery southwest of Wat Mahathat is Wat Si Sawai. Three prangs (pagodas) are surrounded by a laterite wall built in the 12th century and thought to predate the Tai takeover over the city. Inside the wall, the viharn in the west, built of laterite, is separated from the main prang which was constructed in the Lop Buri or Hindu-style, but the other also constructed beside the prangs are Buddhist viharns.

The Crown Prince of that time who later become King Rama VI found a trace of the Hindu sculpture Sayomphu, the greatest Hindu God in this sanctuary. In his opinion, this ruin was once a Hindu shrine, but was later converted into a Buddhist monastery.
Exquisite Detail of Viharn of Wat Lok Moli (Molee) / Chiang Mai / Thailand

I Prahin | www.southeastasia-images.com posted a photo:

Wat Lok Moli is a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand. The temple is situated on the north side of the north moat surrounding the old part of the city, about 400 meters west of the Chang Phuak city gate. It is one of the older but also less visited temples. The temple is thought to date to the 14th century though its origins are somewhat obscure. The viharn, which as we mentioned saw a major overhaul in recent times, and the large brick stupa were constructed in the early part of the 16th century by the Lanna king of the time, Phra Muang Kaew, and indeed the stupa now houses the ashes of both himself and his wife.

The viharn (assembly hall) is beautifully crafted in the typical northern Lanna-style with lovely decorative inlay. The image didn't quite turn out as I wanted, as the sunlight from the east was almost totally blocked by a large banyan tree. Then I just read somewhere that the temple is aligned along a north-south axis, not typical! This was the best I was able to extract with a fusion of multiple exposures in highly contrasting lighting.

Wat Chedi Luang (Thai: วัดเจดีย์หลวง, lit. temple of the big stupa) is the biggest and most popular Buddhist temple in the historic centre of Chiang Mai, Thailand. The current temple grounds were originally made up of three temples — Wat Chedi Luang, Wat Ho Tham and Wat Sukmin.

The construction of the temple started in the 14th century, when King Saen Muang Ma planned to bury the ashes of his father there. After 10 years of building time it was left unfinished, later to be continued after the death of the king by his widow. Probably due to stability problems it took until mid-15th century to be finished during the reign of king Tilokaraj.

It was then 82 m high and had a base diameter of 54 m, at that time the largest building of all Lanna. In 1468, the Emerald Buddha was installed in the eastern niche. In 1545, the upper 30 m of the structure collapsed after an earthquake, and shortly thereafter, in 1551, the Emerald Buddha was moved to Luang Prabang.

In the early 1990s the chedi was reconstructed, financed by UNESCO and the Japanese government. However the result is somewhat controversial, as some claim the new elements are in Central Thai style, not Lanna style. For the 600th anniversary of the chedi in 1995, a copy of the Emerald Buddha made from black jade was placed in the reconstructed eastern niche. (Source: Wikipedia).

Processed from single exposure. The restored parts are in white color. This is the more conventional angle from the previous one. It's not really a slide, but used to be steps.

This was the lighting I wanted to have on the earlier image until I realized the viharn faced North! I took this on the narrow road outside the temple and nearly got hit by a motorcycle in the process....

I Prahin | www.southeastasia-images.com posted a photo:

Wat Phra Singh (full name: Wat Phra Singh Woramahaviharn) is a Buddhist temple (Wat) in Chiang Mai, Northern Thailand. King Ananda Mahidol (Rama VIII), bestowed it the status of Royal temple of the first grade in 1935.

The temple houses an important Buddha statue: the Phra Buddha Sihing which gives the temple its name. The origins of this statue are unknown but, according to legend, it was based on the lion of Shakya, a statue since lost which used to be housed in the Mahabodhi Temple of Bodh Gaya (India).

Construction on Wat Phra Singh began in 1345 when King Phayu, the fifth king of the Mangrai dynasty, had a chedi built to house the ashes of his father King Kham Fu. A wihan and several other buildings were added a few years later and the resulting complex was named Wat Lichiang Phra. When, in 1367, the statue of Phra Buddha Singh was brought to the temple, the temple complex received its present name. From 1578 to 1774 the Burmese ruled Lanna and in this period the temple was abandoned and came under serious disrepair. It was only when King Kawila assumed the throne as King of Chiang Mai in 1782, that the temple was restored. The whole temple complex underwent extensive renovations under the famous monk Khru Ba Srivichai during the 1920s. Many of the buildings were again restored in 2002.

Chiang Mai is a city famous for its beautiful temples. This one for me would rank in the top 3 for beauty. I only had 1 morning to tour the temples and was lucky with the weather. This is image is processed from 3 blended exposures.

Wat Phra That Phanom is a sacred temple located in the district of the same name, in the southern part of Nakhon Phanom Province, northeastern Thailand. At its hub is a tâht (chedi), more impressive than any in present-day Laos and highly revered by Buddhists from both countries. Many people believe that visiting seven times will bring them prosperity and happiness so it's something of a pilgrimage site. Each year, a festival is held in That Phanom to honor the temple. This festival last for one week, during which thousands of people make pilgrimages to honor the shrine.

Historians date the first construction, to around the 9th century AD and modifications have been routine since then. It was originally built in the 16th century by the Laotian King Setthathirath of Lanxang. The tâht is 53.6m high, and a five-tiered, 16kg gold umbrella laden with precious gems adds 4m more to the top. In 1690 it was raised to 47m and you'll find replicas of this tâht all over Isan. The current design went up in 1941, but it toppled during heavy rains in 1975 and was rebuilt in 1978.

This particular structure, "Ho Trai" (temple library) is another prime example of classical Lanna architecture and it is one of the most beautiful temple libraries in Thailand.

Here is detail of the main chedi.
