Quality time

Such a wonderful moment! The Fawn kept running around like crazy through that field. Mom was always keeping an eye out for the little one though. Very nice to observe this kind of behavior. I carefully witnessed the scene through an opening in the grass and was resting my lens on some barb wire to take these shots (ISO 4000 and up ...) so now my lens barrel is somewhat scratched (300mm so not that expensive, but still :p).

I couldn't believe my eyes when this beauty landed on the best branch in my garden (my exact words were 'holy sh.t'). I set up my hide in order to capture the usual gang of blue tits and woodpeckers but I never expected this bird to pay me a visit. Normally they inhabit forests and are almost impossible to find in a open rural area's. :)

Finally my holidays have started and already I've see mating King Fishers, 2 young woodpeckers exploring their new world, and a Roe Deer fawn not more than 25 meters away from my lens :). Unfortunately shot at ISO 6400 under pretty low light so not much detail there anymore. But still, a nice new project for the weeks to come. Just thought I'd share one from yesterday evening. A nice Summer feeling ;)

Not a care in the world when you're witnessing this :). Just kick back and relax (or in my case running around like crazy chasing the light throughout the forest).

Here we go again :). Sunray photo's. I took over 17 Gb worth of photo's yesterday, most of which were all keepers (D800 RAW files are huge :( ). I spent the whole afternoon processing them and only worked through a third of them. The rest has beauties just as gorgeous as this one. The morning was spent cleaning my gear and trying to reassemble my tripod again :p. Anyways, expect to see more light rays shots soon. I've also started working on the evolution of my sunray shots but that's something for this Fall. If all works out ok it's going to be pretty darn awesome. Need to make a few investments first though... I won't elaborate any further. Something which hasn't really been done before, at least not that I know of.

On another note, I've received some comments on me using a watermark in my photo's.. I understand that you want to see watermark free images but I've seen too many of my photo's ending up on blogs and websites without my permission. Even though they list me as the photographer, its just something I want to do to protect my work even further. I hope you understand.

Quite the sight that was! Photography has been slow the past couple of days so I went out to discover some new area's. Maybe you can remember all of those sunray shots I took over the past couple of years. Most of them were taken at, lets call it, 'site A'. Now, I've found a 'site B' which is not far from 'site A' but only 10x as large :D. I wonder how those light rays will look there. Hope to find out soon.

Too much to do, too little time. I guess I have to clone myself :p. Luuk nr. 1 goes left, Luuk nr. 2 goes right: project rapeseed field, project foxes, project badger, project beaver, project pheasant... and my day already started at 5am... busy, busy, busy.

Taken with 24-70mm and 0.6 ND soft grad Lee filter. >10 hectares of yellow :p. Ow boy!!!

Nature seems to have exploded and colors can be found everywhere. I've been having back problems for 2 weeks now but it seems to be going in the right direction. I was able to go for a walk today with my heavy 500mm and capture some stunning in flight shots of an Osprey (Visarend in Dutch). I've also found a Tawney Owl (Bosuil in Dutch) which I will upload tomorrow or so. It has been a very good day today!

Spring has finally arrived! Birds are singing their hearts out, trees are starting to blossom again and I.... don't want to go back to work tomorrow :p. I just want to run around outside the entire day trying to catch stuff with my camera :D. I've had the first tick crawl over my arm today, looking for a nice place to put its jaws into me. Luckily I caught the little bastard before he/she could do any harm. I also found several new king fisher sites, one at which I've already placed 2 esthetically pleasing sticks :D. Can't wait! Unfortunately I have to work throughout the rest of the week but lets hope Mr. and Mrs. King Fisher leave some loving for this weekend.

P.S. The other 'news' can be found in the title :D

The Spring of 2013 is working out to be colder than Christmas of 2012 which is kind of strange of course :p. I first noticed the delay in Spring when browsing through my 2012 Spring photo's. Everything was blooming 2-3 weeks earlier than it is now.

The last one of the snow series. This one just barely made the cut though ;). It could have done with a nicer, more interesting expression of the bird I think. Next upload will be the male Hen Harrier (see a few posts back).

Quite gorgeous birds these Starlings. One came to visit my garden to add a bit of color to it. I have some more portraits in the snow but haven't made my mind up yet about their 'Flickr worthiness' :p. I'll add one or two more later this week.

Edit: just to be clear ;), the RAW looked exactly like this and no elaborate photoshopping was done to create the whiteness around the bird. Al that was needed was a low point of view and correct exposure of the bird (and thus overexposure of the snow around it).

Thank you for being you... for working in freezing temperatures when my own fingers had stopped... thank you for your accessible buttons, even with the thickest of gloves on... thank you for keeping perfect focus on fast moving birds even when there are so many distractions present elsewhere in the picture... thank you for your speed and durability. While waiting for the Hen Harriers to show up (see earlier posts) I witnessed quite a magnificent sunrise. Fantastic colors. It makes it even more special to witness it at 500mm since you can focus a bit more on the cloud formations.
