When my great-great grandparents came to the US from Scotland in 1908, my great-great grandmother saved all of her menus and entertainment guides. SUCH treasures.

Great-Grandpa tries to yoink his hat back from a baby.
My uncle Tom gave me a bunch of photos to restore. I did what I could, but a lot of these photos are pretty damaged and weren't in focus/properly exposed to begin with. But I like them anyway. It's nice to have photos of family.

My mom had hand-me-down coveralls that she insisted on wearing everywhere, and there are several photos of this thing she has on her head. I prefer to think she was playing Mrs. Butterworth rather than dressing like Butterfly McQueen.

My mom was an avid dancer, who went on to teach ballet and tap. I LOVE this photo of her on the sidewalk. Can't tell if this was in Anchorage or Seattle.

Axel in His Knights Templar Uniform

I thought this was a military uniform, but Gram says that no, it was his Knights Templar uniform, and he took it very, very seriously. He wouldn't let anyone touch his feathered hat or sword, until my mom and her brother were kids. I didn't know, but the Knights Templar (at least the Knights Templar Axel is dressed up as) are part of the whole Masonic thing.

I asked Gram about the photo of him in his "Norwegian military outfit," and she was quick to correct me. She then went on to ask me if I could picture "all of those old goats parading around with feathers on their hats."

I love my Gram. She rules. She rules as much as Axel's uniform rules. Only more than that.

gram says this is August 23, 1942, my uncle Tom's christening, and that the woman holding him is his godmother. I thought it was Gram, but she assured me that she didn't own a hat like that, and that Francine (the godmother) wore a "great big hat" to the christening.

Gram is sharp as a tack. That memory of hers...AMAZING!
