shot.<br /> In this instanse, this chap was sitting at a street corner in West Bangkok, close to the river. I'd just bought my Nikon D70s and was feeling experimental, while still feeling odd at the idea of asking a perfect stranger permission to take his/her photo.<br /> <br /> I learnt a great Thai sentence around that time: <i>Tai roop koon dai mai krup?</i> (roughly, 'Can I please take your photo?'). I've used it a lot and a lot, and that besides <i>Hello, how are you?</i>, it's one of the sentences I've used the most in that long trip... It's gotten me close to many locals - old and young - and really helped me to get more engaged with a very friendly and welcoming people :)<br /> <br /> This man had a presence about him though; he just seemed like a very decent guy who'd fallen on hard times. He sat there, with as much dignity as a scantily clad vagabond could muster. I had walked about the corner when I decided to turn around.<br /> I approached him and asked:<br /> &quot;<i>Tai roop koon dai mai krup?</i>&quot;<br /> &quot;<i>Dai krup.</i>&quot;, he replied - &quot;You can.&quot;<br /> He remained quiet and straightened his back some more.
