In this studio in Midtown Manhattan, the Moroccan rug is from ABC Carpet & Home; the acrylic table, from CB2. The lacquered kitchen cabinets, visible on the right, are painted Mouse's Back by Farrow & Ball. The three-tier side table and most of the artwork belonged to the owner's grandmother; the drawing at top right is by John Marin. The sconces are by Visual Comfort.

Like your own Turkish bath! So fun -- a red tub (with a white bird!), gold Moorish tiles, and an arc of turquoise encircling a gold-framed mirror and artwork. And is that stained glass concealing a shower?

Pink + green bedroom, from Met Home: Hello, boudoir

Oh, this makes me miss Miami. It's the bedroom of the fabulous Nisi Berryman, founder of NIBA Home. (Next time you're in Miami, you must go!) A Moorish-inspired custom James Duncan headboard sits against a mottled hibiscus-red wall. "The wall started out with me testing colors for the bedroom," says Berryman. "It went from there. The whole wall is hand-done, and it took me forever." The room's other three walls got the more usual roller treatment, but in the deep-pink hue.

The subtle paisley curtains are from Romo and the Maroc carpet is from NIBA rugs. Tucked on the Eero Saarinen Tulip table that serves as a nightstand is a big glass apothecary jar filled with bangle bracelets of all ages, colors, backgrounds and materials. She finished off the bedroom with linens from Archipelago in New York City and a throw and pillows from Threadcount.

The living room of Ali Wentworth and George Stephanopoulos' Washington D.C. home. The walls are painted Motley by C2 paint. The built-in bookshelves hold displays of ceramics, shells, and mercury glass. The cocktail table is a vintage army cot topped with glass, the cream-colored chair (near the fireplace) is by Swaim, and the Lee Industries sofas are covered in Millefoglie viscose blend velvet by Brunschwig & Fils. Wentworth used fabric dye to create the pattern on the wool rug.

The master bedroom of interior designer Moises Esquenazi’s Los Angeles bungalow. He kept things dark and cozy with walls painted Farrow & Ball’s Mahogany. He designed the mohair velvet headboard; curtains are Donghia's Uma Black Print. Leather Saigon stools are from Bourgeois Bohème. Moroccan rug from Mosaik.

Modern neutral + gray bedroom + faux bois wallpaper, from Met Home

The master bedroom of a Victorian mansion, redesigned by Chicago-based decorator Kara Mann. "I took that romantic, cottagey, tone-on-tone sensibility [the homeowners were] drawn to in Bobby McAlpine's work," she says, "and gave it a more urban edge."

Mann added a lustrous Moroccan rug to the homeowners' original bed, and boosted the glamor quotient with a Varenne Collection Opera armchair and an Ixelles Collection wing chair, both from Casamidy. The faux bois wallpaper is from Nobilis and the ceiling is painted Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. The bed linens are from Muse, the 'Simple' bench is from BDDW, and the lamps and Ixelles tables are from Casamidy. The side table is Cobra by R & Y Augousti, through Barneys. The drapes are Renaissance from Opuzen.

Mann's design tips:

She often relies on monochromatic color schemes in her work. "They're easy to put together; they can be a simple way to give disparate elements unity; and the results are often elegant and clean," she says. The trick is to keep it lively and interesting. "No matter how much you vary the hue, using one color can be monotonous and one-dimensional."

To make sure the palette isn't boring, she seeks out a color's inner shadow and adds some "murky tones to the mix. The colors are off-kilter and unexpected, so they surprise the eye," she says. In the bedroom above, she enveloped the cream, taupe and brown furnishings with a faux-wood wallpaper with an ashy cast, then painted the ceiling Revere Pewter, a cream with a cloudy tint that tones it down. She added depth and diversity to the entire space with texture, sheen, controlled hits of pattern and surprising shapes.
