Lookout on Highway 97, overlooking Kalamalka Lake, Coldstream, ~~Trinity Valley~~ and the Monashee mountain range beyond.

Taken in beautiful Vernon, BC. Nothing like some photographic activity after stuffing yourself with turkey. Hmmm.

I'm finding more and more that I really like the pastel coloured tones in some of my landscape work. Guess I should pursue that in more depth.

Blend of three exposures using the LR/Enfuse plugin.

Just a quick test of my new Sigma 24-70 f/2.8, which I got mostly to be a portrait / indoor lens. Not bad, for natural kitchen light. But yes, it is front focusing, I'll adjust it later.

One more pulled from the archives, taken at the Dreamweaver trail, which I did with my pentaxian buddy Dave. Nice trail, good coastal feel to it.

We almost missed this waterfall, which was definitely the highlight of the trip.

I had a similar version of this photo taken with a polarizer, but for once I thought the reflections on the logs actually made the photo better.

Early morning rise on Flower Ridge. Strathcona Park, Vancouver Island, Canada.

Buttle Lake and the entire valley were covered by fog, while the sunrise colours still showed a hint of the smoke from the forest fires happening in the region. I could even smell a faint burnt scent when I first got up.

MUST be seen large on black

Took this (and many others) by the end of summer on Flower Ridge trail, Strathcona Park, Vancouver Island, Canada.

Very nice trail, (but you'll be grunting all the way up), and spectacular views.The park had just gone through a particularly strong forest fire season, thus the surreal sunsets. It actually looked like this, it was amazing to just sit down and watch.

This photo won first place in the "Physical Geography" category on the Annual Geography Photo Contest at University of Victoria.

A salvaged photo of a beautiful woman.

Originally just a test exposure to see how much light I needed to nuke the background using just available light, but I actually love her serene expression here, plus the low-fi feeling makes it more interesting. Or maybe I'm just in love.

After posting so many photos of his plays, now it's time to show the man himself: This is Graham McDonald, rising theatre director from Theatre Inconnu, who has directed some highly acclaimed shows lately (The Pillowman, Swimming to Cambodia, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf). This photo unfortunately didn't make in time for illustrating Times Colonist's feature article on May 28th, 2008 (two other photos of mine did..uncredited, yet again. Sigh.)

Once more, I am helping my friend and director Graham McDonald with some promo shots for his next play.

"A Short History of Night" charts the beginnings of modern science through the dramatization of two of the Renaissance’s most colourful figures: Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe and geometrician/mystic Johannes Kepler.

In this scene, Johannes Kepler (Clayton Jevne) and Barbara (Hannah Boutilier) arrive at Tycho Brahe's castle.

Strobist Info: Vivitar 285HV with a blue gel (to give a "nightly" feeling) plus a wide angle diffuser, at camera right, about 5 meters from the subjects. 1/2 or 1/4 power, can't remember. Generic flash on full power behind the "castle", with a red gel. Triggered with Cactus Triggers. I would have loved to have some fill from camera left, but alas, I only have two flashes.

Joyce is a friend and fellow PhD student at the university, although she deals with the microliters and nanometers of the genetics / molecular biology world (Argh). She researches the Dutch Elm disease, and this is as far as I know about her work :-)

I'd promised her some photos since ages past, and we finally got around doing it a couple of weeks ago. She was a great model, despite my complete lack of directions (worsened by cactus trigger malfunctions).

This was the one setup I had actually planned in my mind, and is a combination of two techniques I wanted to try: pulling a " McNally" by balancing ambient light and CTO gels to get that cool/warm contrast, and the airy, clean high key look. I'm fairly satisfied with both aspects.

Strobist Info: Vivitar 285HV+cactus trigger with 1 1/4 CTO gel into shoot through umbrella on camera left, about 3-4ft from subject. Background lighted by sunny window light. Post processed in Photoshop following the Christy Schuler tutorials.

I'm doing something bad here, which is uploading a series of similar photos...but I do like them all, and think each framing evokes a slightly different feeling. You be the judge...which one is the best? This one is my pick, by a hair.
