I will be leading two group tours to the park next year.

The winter tour (Jan. 11 - 17, 2014) will feature plenty of wildlife photography along with a two day trip into the interior to visit the thermals around Old Faithful and some of the other less-accessible areas.

The spring tour (May 31 - June 7, 2014) is all about the wildlife.
Great Gray Owl Nest

You can imagine my excitement when I saw my first great gray owl nest during my recent Yellowstone trip. I visited this spot several times during my stay, and the day I brought my tour clients in was the first time I saw the male owl arrive at the nest to feed the female. Here he is taking off.

Though I normally am quite liberal when it comes to sharing wildlife sighting/location info, in this case I am withholding information on the owl nest, since it remains a somewhat sensitive area. Thank you for understanding.

This momma fox had to defend her den and her kits against a marauding badger. Meanwhile, a herd of bighorn sheep looked on. Surreal, exciting and super intense!
Southern Yellow-Billed Hornbill

This small hornbill was tossing this carcass--too far gone to identify--all over the place. Not sure if it ever got around to actually eating any of it.

This was photographed in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park (the "KTP") last year. Kgalagadi is one of South Africa's "Arid Parks." We visited the KTP and Mokala National Park during the first half of our trip, coming face to face with a lot of cool and unique species we haven't seen during our previous Africa exploration.

I have published a small "highlights" gallery of 30 images from the Arid Parks on my website.
Yellowstone Bison

For nearly six years now I've been sharing my Yellowstone adventures here on Flickr. I'm not sure how long that will continue, as I don't invest nearly as much time in this site as I used to (for more frequent updates, you should monitor my Facebook page), but I will be posting highlights from at least one more trip.

That starts this Friday. I'll be in Yellowstone for three weeks, leading some workshops and tours part of the time, but also fitting in my own exploration here and there. Stay tuned for updates from the park!

If you want to revisit some of last year's highlights (a little more exciting than this grumpy bison bull), check out the Spring 2012 Highlights gallery on my website.

The highlight of my month in Costa Rica. We found this cat on the very last day of my second photo tour, after striking out the day before (not for lack of trying... I waded through a chest-high river at one point).

The puma had killed a coati near the trail and was busy eating when we showed up.

I will be returning to Costa Rica to lead a 2014 tour. This tour will feature the awesome extension to Corcovado National Park, home to this puma and tons of other great wildlife! Please visit my tour website to learn more.
Emerald Toucanet Berry Toss

Max Waugh Photography posted a photo:

One of the highlights of my first 2013 Costa Rica tour, which took place in February. This emerald toucanet (also known as the blue-throated toucanet) and its mate were feeding right next to the lodge at Savegre. It was so close that aside from shooting through the window, my only option was to crouch at a steep angle a few feet away to get a shot.

I will be leading a new Costa Rica tour in 2014. We will be visiting Savegre, home of these toucanets and the resplendent quetzal during its nesting season, along with some great locations in the Pacific lowlands. The tour culminates in an optional extension to Corcovado National Park, the best place for wildlife in the entire country. If you are interested in joining me, please visit my tour website to learn more.

I have published four brand new calendars for 2014. Among them is Yellowstone Wolves, a collaboration with fellow photographer Deby Dixon.

My wolf calendar from last year was so popular, I decided it would be fun to do a brand new one this year, focusing solely on wolves from my favorite park.

Please be sure to check out the four new calendars as well as four of my "classic" themes from years past on my website.

I'm publishing my 2014 calendars pretty early this year. I'll have four brand new calendar themes.

The one I've been waiting to do the longest is the Owls calendar. It wasn't until a couple months ago that I finally felt I had enough variety so that I could create a calendar with a different owl every month. Something it also made me do was go back into the archives and scour my older images. This shot of an African scops owl is something I've never published, but it worked quite well for the cover.

Please be sure to check out the four new calendars as well as four of my "classic" themes from years past on my website.

Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a great park for cheetah sightings. We saw six cheetahs when we were there. Unfortunately, none of them were very cooperative.

In case you missed it, earlier this year I made a day trip to Boundary Bay and Reifel Sanctuary in British Columbia and came away with two new owl species. This is the northern saw-whet, perhaps the top species on my list.

We were fortunate to see four of them, though they were all very well hidden, napping during the day under thick branches.

If you have not looked through the small gallery from that trip, you can see it here.
