I spent the most wonderful day with my [one of three] wife! We did culture, we did lunch, we did booze, we did snapping, we did posing. Sigh, I love my Spuddles.

Another shot of the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill.

I would actually like to sleep just here, soul soothing curves , blue [ok, processed to greeny blue] sky, the sound of the waves crashing on the [much to violet's disapproval] pebble beach. Hmm. Tell him I've gone to Bexhill and I'll be back at the end of BST.

62 365 - Centre Point

Centre Point is a huge tower in W1, if you're near Tottenham Court Road you really can't miss it and I advise that you have a stroll around it as it's actually quite funky. Brutal but not brutal enough for me though lol! Doesn't feature on either of my London Buildings list, tis neither ugly nor beautiful enough. On the scale it's nearer the beautiful end though. Note the gorgeous honeycomb structure and if you're in town as the sun sets it glows on its western face.

The Trellick Tower

Nestled at the end of Portobello Road Market stands this Erno Goldfinger master piece. Another bit of brutal architecture which has been on my list of "must sees" for a long while. However, I didn't love it in the flesh as much I thought I would. I have my ideas why but I don't want to share them publically. LOL.

It's listed and a marvel to look at especially on the balcony side. The other of his beasts is on the north side of the Blackwall tunnel... Can't imagine its views are anywhere near as fabulous as its sister in North Kensington but I imagine they're still bloody amazing.

Dark mood tonight. Anyone know any funny jokes?

I am hearing the All Saints version as I have never really liked Red Hot Chili Pepers, even the name puts me off.

As they sing on Cbeebies -
Look up, look down, look all around.
Up in the air or on the ground.

Anyway, I digress and the two songs don't mix well. This is the underside of Waterloo Bridge in London. A car bridge unlike its neighbour which is for choo choos. Under the Southbank side of the bridge there are always loads of books and records for sale and if you stop and look up you will see all these gorgeous things: concrete, horizontal lines, vertical lines, curves, diagonals and symmetry. Ahh, soothes the eyes...bliss!

She's cool, calm and collected. Not to mention bright as the proverbial button with her finger on most pulses [except music...proper music, snigger]. Anyway, the wife, taken in the recently painted stairwell of the Hayward Gallery...and If you don't know it then you should as its a fabulous design-led gallery.

Spent the day on one of Kent's finest beaches. Awful town but with so much potential, I am almost tempted to buy. Spotted a lovely seafront house and might have to check out the asking price.

Anyway, this is the imposing and brutal Arlington House. If you know Margate then you will know this tower. It's so huge - it's the only thing on the seafront over 20 metres high [second to Dreamlands]. Anyway, if you're Kent bound I thoroughly recommend it as it's the most gorgeous shallow sandy beach complete with a sea bathing pool and donkey rides.

Thames Barrier Park

If you live in London then you should brave the Thames Gateway [Silvertown] and visit the Thames Barrier Park. Designed by French landscape architects Group Signes, Patel Taylor Architects and Arup the highlights are the park are the landscaping, fab playground, fountain plaza and this pavilion area with views of the Gehry-esque Thames flood barrier.

Secret number 5: I love brutalist architecture! I love modern architecture, classic stuff can crumble under the weight of its domed roofs.

The Barbican, which is apparently the largest performing arts centre in Europe as well as providing accommodation, was described as one of the ugliest buildings in London. Perhaps it isn't ornate like St Pauls or chic like the Gherkin but for me the pre-cast concrete "estate" with its attention to detail rocks. The estate was designed to give a sense of community despite the density. It aims to cater for all with open spaces, sports facilities, a children's park and small shops. On a sunny day the concrete shines and on the other days...I try not to look!

I love tower blocks, the Trellick Tower being another fave of mine but also the smaller block in the Barbican Estate to the right of the Lauderdale Tower above really rocks. Each has an intergral window box and I think tenants are contractually bound to grow flowers...I made that bit up but I would inforce that!

Top 10 gorgeous/fugly London buildings

The National Theatre is one of my favourite buildings in London. I have not decided the exact ranking but called this number 1 for the moment [it's penciled on]. The shuttered concrete looks fab on sunny, rainy and overcast days.

Prince Charles once said the building was "a clever way of building a nuclear power station in the middle of London without anyone objecting". Hmm. Well, I love it.

I've decided to put photograph my* top ten gorgeous and fugly pieces of London architecture (Zones 1 and 2 only).

* this has no reflection whatsoever on my husband's choices and should not be held against him as an architect. Snigger.
