I haven't had a huge amount of time to upload anything to Flickr or comment on all my contact's great photos, so apologies for that. It's actually scary how quickly you can get behind on commenting and uploading (I've got roughly 50+ shots to upload, eeekk!).

Anway enough of the excuses....

This is a shot I took a number of months ago which I had never gotten around to doing anything with. Shot was taken on walk heading South from Loughborough along the Grand Union Canal.

Processing:
- 3 x RAW exposures (-2, 0, +2) taken handheld
- Imported into Lightroom 2
- 3 exposures exported into Photomatix
- Tonemapped using Photomatix, new HDR version re-imported into Lightroom
- Cropped (significantly)
- Contrast increased
- Clarity and recovery slightly increased.
- Colours slightly saturated
Exploration

*Update* - I'm actually up to 11 as rather strangely one of my previous shots just appeared on Explore a good few days after it was posted.

A bit of shameless self promotion after I got my 10th pic into explore! Many thanks to everyone for your views/comments/favs.

Overall I’m still a bit undecided about how I feel about explore. In one way it's a great way to increase the exposure of your work (photo pun fully intended), but I found that it’s easy to start getting a bit obsessed with getting shots into it.

I also found it can also act as a bit of a drug which you can easily get withdrawal symptoms from. I remember really wanting to get my first shot in, then wanting 3 in, then 5 in....etc....I’m a bit more relaxed about it now and don't follow it quite as closely, that's not to say I don't appreciate it when a shot gets picked up.

It's also funny scanning the various group discussions to see how passionately people feel about it, at the end of the day it's what's "interesting" as defined by a computer, so to get upset if a shot doesn't get included is pretty stupid.
The weather has been pretty awful of the last few days here in England (no surprise there), so I have been playing with some indoor shots.

The shot above was done by placing a DVD flat on a standard piece of A4 then lighting it from above using a normal desk lamp. I wet the DVD and managed to push the water droplets into some sort of order. No flash, tripod or any other fancy studio style equipment was used.
Personally my favourite photographers on Flickr are the ones who keep you guessing as to the style/substance of their next shot. In my own way, I attempt to do the same with my shots (that's not to say these little balls wont make any appearance again in the near future).

This shot was constructed by placing these little balls (which are normally in a vase) on a dinner plate. To minimise the depth of field as much as possible, I used the the biggest aperture possible (smallest f-number) with the longest focal length available (105mm). The lighting except the flash was used.

Further Thoughts:
My first attempt at trying to get that soft watery feel from a long exposure shot. Unfortunately not having a tripod meant that 1/5th was about as long as I could hand hold it without blur or over-exposure.
Got a great response to my balls first time around, so I thought it was time to get them out again :-D Same technique as last time.

This shot was constructed by placing these little balls (not marbles) on a dinner plate. To minimise the depth of field as much as possible, I used the the biggest aperture possible (smallest f-number) with the longest focal length available (105mm). No lighting except the onboard flash was used.
