Thanks to Liz for letting me stay in this project after being Very Negligent. This has been the year of... Crazy, and I've been a terrible 12 Months for Dogs participant, even with a new dog who is a very good model.

Rollie is not a clothes hound like Mac was, but one day it was very cold and I couldn't resist. He really does look nice, doesn't he?

this poor dog is going to suffer. mac wore clothes and didn't suffer, but this dog will have many things on his head, i can tell. when i was trimming my wisteria outside, the long vines would just land on him and he didn't even move. so i wanted to pose him with those, but no dice. then came the oxalis, and then the lemon. poor, poor rollie.

Meet Rawlings, known as Rollie. Rollie is a rescued pit bull, about 4 years old, with vision problems. He was clearly someone's indoor dog- he knows all about houses, is potty trained, knows and loves the car, etc. He came to the shelter as a stray, but the shelter he came from is known as the shelter that "doesn't kill dogs," so stray is questionable. He's a tiny little monkey- weighed in today at 44 pounds- and at least 1/3 of his weight is in his head.

I worked up my nerve to go "dog shopping" on Wednesday, knowing exactly what I wanted: a small, stable, male pit bull, who hopefully got along with at least some dogs, and didn't remind me of Mac every single time I looked at him. This guy greeted me in his kennel with soft body- I thought he was a puppy- and ran into the play yard and play bowed at a toy. He's exactly what I wanted. Multiple people tried to talk me out of him- his vision isn't very good, and his conformation is, as my vet said "not perfect"- but really, he's just right. In fact, I may have outdone myself in picking a great dog.

He's very social, so far dog-friendly, and such an easy keeper. He isn't pushy and needy, which, though is exactly what I loved about Mac, is what I didn't want again. I didn't want a replacement for Mac, or another "heart dog." I just wanted a dog. And Rollie is perfect.

So this project I set myself was supposed to be "buggy"- Mac the bug and bedbugs from the sofafrees. It's definitely Mac-cy, but the sofafrees aren't cooperating. When I see them, I don't have Mac, and when I return with Mac, the sofafrees are gone. The street furniture, however, is cooperating.

So I give you my friend S posing with Mac. Unintentionally REALLY posing with Mac.

So last year, during 52 Weeks of Dogs, I kept ending up with Mac and the sofafree. This year, I decided to do 52 weeks of sofafree. But I didn't want to disappoint Mac fans, so I've decided to do Mac AND sofafree shots once a month. Somehow this month was virtually sofafree-less, except for the week that it rained (always a strong time for sofafree) so it came down to today to find a sofafree. And boy, was it worth it.

Of course this sofafree was directly next to the only car on the block, which happened to contain a man and a woman participating in illegal activity. Of course.

Week 52/Week 1: Year of the Bug(s)

I almost didn't make it, but I'm proud to say that I successfully completed my first year challenge: 52 Weeks for Dogs. Mac got tired of it after about a month, but we muddled through without even missing a week.

I ended up using way more iPhone shots than I expected for two reasons: Mac didn't have time to squirrel away from the phone and the phone was around when the sofafrees appeared. Which leads me to the next part of this shot: This is the first shot in my next project, The Year of the Bugs: 52 Weeks of Sofafree. Mac will surely make some appearances, but he is off the hook starting now. The bugs in the title are bedbugs of course, but I will try not to include them in the pictures.

It's been real.

took this a couple of days ago and wasn't sure if it was the shot for the week. nothing else i could shoot today could come close to capturing mac, which is why i started the #buginarug hashtag on IG a few months ago. and even the iphone caught the light so nicely. i just adjusted the curves a tiny bit with luminance.

I had to choose between the dumb dog shot and the spawning sofafree from last week.

This one won. We already knew Mac is a bobo, and we've already seen him with sofafrees, including the black one pictured there. So, something slightly different.

Two things: it appears that I have lost the ability to shoot with a digital camera. I can shoot film and I can shoot iPhone, but not anything else. I have shot 3 weeks in a row (or something) with both digital and iPhone, and only the iPhone is anywhere near renderable.

Second: next year will be 52 weeks of sofafree. That's all there is to it.
