With their impressive waterfall drop of 380 m the Krimml Waterfalls are the fifth highest waterfalls in the world. With approx. 350,000 visitors each year they are one of the most visited tourist features in Austria. A hiking trail built makes it possible to get very close to this breathtaking nature spectacle, affording sensational views. Enjoy the refreshing mizzle and the impressive power of the water amidst the gorgeous scenery of the Hohe Tauern National Park. For more than 100 years the well constructed Waterfall Trail of 4 km in length with its numerous vantage points and platforms has taken nature lovers very close to the nature spectacle of the Krimml Waterfalls.

Krimmler Wasserfälle in Austria is a tiered waterfall. The waterfall begins at the Krimmler Ache at the top of the Krimmler Achendal, and plunges downward in three stages. The upper stage has a drop of 140 metres, the middle of 100 metres, and the lowest a drop of 140 metre

The upper stage has a drop of 140 metres, the middle of 100 metres, and the lowest a drop of 140 metre

At the Hintertux Glacier Austria's only all-year-round ski resort you hit the heights: Ski runs as far as you can see and fantastic panoramic views from the dolomites to the Zugspitze, Worldcup-Halfpipe, Funpark and beautiful sunterraces. A fascinating spectacle of nature and sports, guaranteed to arouse indescribable feelings in every skier, carver, snowboarder, tourist, hiker or sunbather. The glaciers are accessed by gondola and chair lifts and are used as a glacier skiing region all year round. At its highest point the ski region reaches a height of 3,250 m in the saddle between the peaks of the b>Gefrorene-Wand-Spitzen.Three large gondola lifts have been built: the so-called glacier buses Gletscherbusse where the gondolas are suspended on two steel cables and are able to carry 24 people each. The Gletscherbus 3 is the highest cable car system using two cables in the world. In all there are 18 lifts to transport winter sports tourist and other visitors from the Hintertux valley station up to the glacier.

A red snowplow on the slope of the Hintertux Glacier. The glacier has a length of about 4 km. The snowplow prepares a run at a ski resort. The Hintertux Glacier offers skiing all year round. Its height means that there are usually good snow conditions, enabling almost all pistes and lifts to be kept open. The glacier skiing region has its own ski school for both beginners and advanced skiers.

In all there are 18 lifts to transport winter sports tourist and other visitors from the Hintertux valley station up to the glacier.

Photo taken at the Hintertux Glacier - Austria's only all-year-round ski resort. Here you hit the heights: In summer 18 km of slopes and up to 9 lifts are operated in Austria's most beautiful all-year-round ski resort. Let the eye escape across the shimmering slopes of the pristine Dolmites and reach up far into the Zugspitze. Never will you feel so lucky to be alive! This place has it all and it will be sure to take you back down to earth - in the most thrilling way!

Only two years ago they found a massive ice cave just below the peak of the Hintertux glacier. An ice cave on 3.250m! The cave winds itself deep into the glacier and you will find yourself 25m underneath the surface in the middle of glowing ice crystals, bizarre formations, deep gorges, mini glacial lakes… it’s a natural phenomenon that you should check out when you visit Hintertux. A real adventure in summer and winter! Equipped with helmets we climb and crawl deep into this beautiful and ice cold cave. It’s a unique challenge for sporty people without claustrophobia.

The Natural Ice Palace at the peak of Hintertux glacier has been opened to the public since 3rd November 2008. In August 2007 Roman Erler of Natursport Tirol, whilst doing a mountain tour discovered the cave by chance and subsequently surveyed it. At this time it was never considered opening it to the public because of the natural movement of the glacier. Astoundingly there was little movement of the wall although the iceflow was at a 30° gradient. The temperature inside the Ice Palace hovers around zero degrees Celcius. The sense of being inside a glacier is quite indescribable: a heady combination of dynamism and serenity. Quite simply one of the most beautiful places that we have ever had the privilege of visiting. Family photo of us; BieJee, Kanitha, Ben, Samantha and the Neanderthal!!

We were lucky enough to be the only people on the last tour of the day, and because we were so enthusiastic, the project leader allowed us to enter a section of the cave not usually accessible to the public. Sections of the cave have been illuminated with coloured lights which add a different dimension to the experience, and the guide is well experienced at pointing out the most interresting locations. On a practical note, the cave is accessed from the top ski lift at Hintertux and is a 200m walk under supervision from the stunning Gefrorene Wand viewpoint which provides stunning vistas over the Tyrol and over the Dolomites.

BieJee passing a stalacmites and getting down step by step.

At its highest point the ski region reaches a height of 3,250 m in the saddle between the peaks of the Gefrorene-Wand-Spitzen.Three large gondola lifts have been built: the so-called glacier buses Gletscherbusse where the gondolas are suspended on two steel cables and are able to carry 24 people each. The Gletscherbus 3 is the highest cable car system using two cables in the world. In all there are 18 lifts to transport winter sports tourist and other visitors from the Hintertux valley station up to the glacier.

At the Hintertux Glacier - Austria's only all-year-round ski resort - you hit the heights: In summer 18 km of slopes and up to 9 lifts are operated in Austria's most beautiful all-year-round ski resort. Let the eye escape across the shimmering slopes of the pristine Dolmites and reach up far into the Zugspitze. Never will you feel so lucky to be alive! This place has it all and it will be sure to take you back down to earth - in the most thrilling way!
