The Pyrenees also spelled Pyrenées Spanish: Pirineos; French: Pyrénées; Catalan: Pirineus; Occitan: Pirenèus; Aragonese: Perinés; Basque: Pirinioak are a range of mountains in southwest Europe that form a natural border between France and Spain. They separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about 430 km. For the most part, the main crest forms a massive divider between France and Spain, with the tiny country of Andorra sandwiched in between. Gabas is a hamlet nearby in the valley of the Gave d'Ossau in the French Pyrenees. It is located where that river is formed by the confluence of two mountain streams, the Gave de Bious and the Gave du Brousset, which flow respectively from the western and eastern sides of the Pic du Midi d'Ossau - 2,884 m.
The Poitou Donkey above is a breed of donkey originating in the Poitou region of France. One of the most distinctive donkey breeds, it is also among the rarest and least-known.The friendly, affectionate and docile Poitou Donkey is the oldest breed approved in France. The Poitou is also noted for its large body. In the Middle Ages, owning a Poitou Donkey may have been a status symbol among the local French nobility. Today there are an estimated 400 Poitou. We were high up in the Pyrenees at the mountain stream Gave de Bious at elevation of 1241 meter. We met a friendly Poitou Donkey at this beautiful Chalet is located 3 km from the mountain pass Portalet d'Aneu and border crossing in the Pyrenees, between France and Spain.

De Pyreneeën Frans: Pyrénées, Spaans: Pirineos, Catalaans: Pirineus, Baskisch: Pirinioak zijn een gebergte, gelegen op de grens van Spanje en Frankrijk. Het gebergte strekt zich uit over ongeveer 430 kilometer, tussen de Atlantische Oceaan en de Middellandse Zee. De hoogste berg is de Aneto 3404 meter, gelegen in het uiterste noordoosten van het Spaanse Aragón. Het gebergte is ontstaan door de botsing van het Iberisch schiereiland met het Europese continent, gedurende de Alpiene orogenese, vanaf circa 50 miljoen jaar geleden tot heden. Dit huisje gelegen aan het riviertje Gave de Bious vlakbij de bergtop Pic du Midi d'Ossau - 2,884 m. Dit huisje ligt 3km gelegen van de bergpas ortalet d'Aneu bij de Spaanse grens.
De Poitou-ezel ook wel Franse Reuzenezel genoemd is één van de grootste ezelrassen. Ook is dit één van de oudste en zuiverste ezelrassen. Ze zijn, naast hun grootte, opvallend door hun vaak lange vervilte vacht. De geschiedenis van de Poitou-ezel gaat terug tot in de tijd van de Romeinen. Het stamboek is ontstaan in 1884. Tegenwoordig is de Poitou-ezel ook in zijn vaderland Frankrijk een zeldzaam ras geworden. In 1977 waren er wereldwijd nog maar 44 Poitou-ezels over. Dankzij het op tijd ingrijpen van fokkers waren dit er in 2004 wereldwijd alweer 400. De Poitou-ezel is een vriendelijke en rustige ezel.
